Loydstsb credit card fraud. Now taking payment from saving account. Help!

Hi,

I hope I've posted this in the right place, sorry in advance if I haven't.

I had 3 fraudulent transaction on my Loydstsb CC at the end of May that came to just under £174.00.

I phoned them and they said they would sort it out. They also said they would send me a form to fill in which I haven't received.

Anyway, I received my statement last week with a no payment charge and interest added on taking the total to just above £185.00.

I phoned them again Thursday and the person I spoke to said someone would phone me back Friday. They never did.

I have just checked my bank on-line and they have taken £5.00, which is dated for tomorrow to pay my credit card from my web savings account. There was only £5.34 in the account.

I owe nothing on the credit card, all the money owed is from the fraudulent transactions, could someone tell me what I should do next please?

And, could they take money from my current account? I only ever have enough money in there to pay my bills and I'm now worried this could cause me more money problems.

Many thanks Anita

First off, make a formal complaint about their handling of the problem.

Secondly, yes they can take money from your savings/current account to pay your credit card (but only the minimum payment I believe). It's called the right to set-off, and is detailed in your CC T&C's...

Be sure to read the last sentence of that condition, and add a reference to that in your complaint.

You need to go into your local branch ASAP to have it sorted, if it happened in May that should have been sorted immediately. I would have been on the phone to them every single time. Did you report it to the police? if not then you need to and forward the report to your bank? Has your bank investigated the fraud? I had a fraud a few years ago with my current account at the time Natwest (£800), went to police straight away and bank, got my money back within 2 weeks. I was also told where & when it happened.
  • Thank you for your reply YorkshireBoy.

Who do I actually complain to and how?

    Phone or letter?

Yes I will mention the 7 days advance warning too!

    Many thanks Anita

  • No, I didn't report it to the police I thought the banks dealt with it and no one from the bank told me to report it.

This was the first time in 30 odd years I have ever had a problem like this and don't know what to do!

Although, in the last month I have had 5 small fraudulent transactions on my Halifax CC and these have already been sorted out. No one told me to report these to the police either!

    Many thanks Anita

You're either incredibly unlucky, or you need to change your shopping habits!
  • Not sure what you mean by change your shopping habits but all my shopping is done on-line!

I hardly ever shop online (in, like yourself, 30 years of banking). Coincidentally(?) I've never been the victim of card fraud either.
  • I had never shopped on-line before 2007 but then my circumstances changed.
I had to gradually learn how to shop on-line and for the past 10 months I haven't had a choice but to shop on-line!

How do you stop people getting your card details? As far as I am aware I have all the necessary security on my computer. Is there anything else I should do?
