ESI car insurance - anyone heard of them?

Hi everyone, after just going with the renewal quote a couple of years running (stupid, stupid!), this year I am determined to get a good deal! I've gone on all the price comparison websites and one of the best quotes is from ESI, apparently they're for people who work in the NHS (my husband does), the fire service etc. There's only one review though - so I'm just a bit wary of going with a company I've never heard of. How do i check ot if they're ok?

Also while I'm here, anyone know about adding another driver onto the policy halfway through the year? I haven't passed yet (insurance is for my husband) but in mybe 6 months I may want to insure myself - presumably I have to just pay what the company say - as we'll have already paid £400 or so for my husband. Not sure how it works?

Thanks everyone for reading :)

Look under www.esinsure.com which is their own website which looks fairly professional,

Beware of ESI insurance company. Before you realise, you will step into a big mess that is very difficult and time and money consuming to solve. I bought the ESI car insurance through a broker (Allen and Allen) which probably wasn't a clever thing to do anyway. I wasn't really given a choice to pick up my insurer. Several problems have come up after that.

    1. The money deducted from my credit card by A&A was £136 more than what was told to me over the phone. When I realised they refused to check the recorded phone conversation.

    2. When I decided to cancel this policy on the 3rd day of buying it (too expensive), I was transferred to another advisor who did not know me at all! She promised that the forms would be sent across in next 4 days for cancellation but the procedure takes 10-14 days. Refunds are (obviously) not instant.

    3. I never received any forms. I called A&A today 10 days after that conversation and no one could find my reference! I missed a beat. I managed to talk to someone who could find my details finally after half hour of me frantically phoning around. She said she is not too bothered about the form not reaching me on time because the refunds take 4-6 weeks anyway!!

    4. Allen and Allen and ESI both have very rude and unpleasant staff.

    PLEASE BEWARE OF BOTH!
