Has anyone tried to get Barclaycard's 6.9% existing customer lifetime balance transfer recently.

The man from Barclaycard ... he say no! My deal with Virgin is about to end (in August) and I was all set to transfer onto my Barclaycard for a lifetime deal.

I'm a bit peeved to be honest ... I've had a barclaycard for nearly 30 years - they must have made thousands out of me. I have taken advantage of this offer before and had no problems. I called them twice just in case the first operator didn't know what he was talking about ... but the answer was still no. To quote ... 'there are no transfer deals available on your account, you need to wait for us to contact you and offer a deal before you can transfer anything' I have just paid off my balance, my credit limit is 12K. I very rarely have a 0 balance, I usually pay off my balance just slowly, paying slightly over the minimim payment each month so I would have thought I'd be prime candidate for a balance transfer.

Should I....

1. Call again on Monday and speak to someone in the UK.
2. Call and close my account (not sure I want to do that though as Barclaycard has been a good fall back for me over the years)
3. Apply for another card with someone else.
4. Do nothing and wait to see if they come up with a deal before August.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated!

Thanks!

I believe that the 6.9% interest on Barclaycard is not currently available for existing customer, they will only offer you a 14.9% interest. Closing your account, well maybe you would take the risk to loose everything. if you have had a barclaycard for that long then I would think that you have a decent credit report (have you checked recently?). So why not try applying for a different one, you can find some good deals around.

    3. definitely - don't hang around waiting to see if barclaycard approach you with a deal - they may not and the nasty Virgin card spider will have you in it's trap! Transfer that balance and close that Virgin acct as early as you can. Remember the transfer fee of around 2.5% for the new card. If you have any savings you can use to pay off some of the balance it will help.

You could try calling barclaycard once more on Monday, just in case. Also, as previously suggested, take a quick look at your credit file to make sure everything's in order before applying for a new card.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

They said no to me as well, cancelled the card.

The message re upgrading their system has been there now for several weeks!

We phoned Barclaycard yesterday to see if we could do a BT and were offered straight away a 0% deal or the 6.9% LOB which we took with 2.5% fee. So it looks like the deal is still available if they like you. Though it might still be luck of the draw...

    Cheers for the replies

Mmmm... it sound like Barclaycard are up to something. It's reasuring to know it's not just me! My credit file is fine ... well equifax is, but Barclaycard doesn't show on it for some reason. I've not checked experian yet but I will before I apply for anything new. I'll call Barclaycard UK on Monday and give it another try but it doesn't look like they are going to offer anything sometime soon but I don't think I will close it just yet... I've had it that long, it's like an old friend!

I will however get my money off Virgin before they have chance to charge me their evil interest rates. I've got a Mint Card so I'll call them and see if they can offer me anything and failing that I'll have a look round for something else.

We recently did a LOB transfer with BC about 2 months ago. They kept refusing for a few months. We basically cleared off another card so i think they were wanting to see that closed.

Yes, Mint's a good bet, IMO. I've had offers as good or better than the introductory deals now and again.

Alternatively, 13 months at 0% is currently available to new customers from Halifax on balance transfers made in the first 90 days. There's a 3% BT fee.
IME, and from feedback here, credit limits are generous and the minimum monthly payment is just 1% of the balance shifted ;)

I've just remembered, I have another Barclaycard which was originally a Morgan Stanley card. I've not used it since it changed to Barclaycard, I think it's called Barclaycard Cashback now? I called them a few weeks ago as I got a statement out of the blue showing I'm 2p in credit and they offered me the 6.9%/no transfer fee while I was on the phone. I turned it down as I don't have a very high credit limit on it.

I will call them and see if that offer still stands. I might be able to get some of the Virgin balance shifted onto that.

    That's definitely worth a try.
I've just been offered 0% for 12 months on BTs ( 2.5% BT fee) on my Barclaycard Cashback account.
