Girls school trousers - smaller waists/hips

I wondered if anyone could offer any advice, both my daughters, 8 and 13 are what I would say normal size and I find it a nightmare finding trousers that are not enormous in the waist and hips. Just got a delivery of Next trousers in the sale for my youngest and although they fit in length, I've had to pull the adjustable waist so tight its very bulky at the back. Its so annoying as they aren't skinny girls. Anybody find any shops good for this, I know I will end up searching the high street, but will probably end up getting out my needle and thread again. Thanks.

bhs do school wear called fit the nation, they do their uniform in standard, narrow and generous fit, worth a try

I have this problem with my daughter she is slim but i wouldnt call her skinny by any means but most clothes hang off her hips and waist i recently bought some school trousers from M&S and they fit her perfectly might be worth a try :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

My two girls have always been the same. M&S worked for me.0

I have difficulty finding any school uniform that is in anything less than Billy/Bessie Bunter size. And non-adjustable waists are a complete no-no. I can't imagine how huge the child who can fit into them must be because they hang off both my two like clown's trousers. Adjustable waists are okay, particularly in winter when they have vests tucked in, but are a bit of a nuisance in warmer weather when the buttons are just rubbing on bare skin, which can be quite uncomfortable. Dresses and pinafores are a solution for now, but DD won't be wanting to wear them in a few years time.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I suppose the other option is find someone who can sow and have the trousers tucked at the waist my mil used to do my daughters for me then we would just undo the stitching when she grew a little :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

I am having the same problem just bought DD trousers and skirts for the new term. luckily i got her to try them on and they could be pulled down no problem! they fit in the length but never the waistWhat's for you won't go past you0

um, I haven't got kids so ignore me if this is silly, but could you try them in boys trousers? They tend to be straight fitted. If you could shop around for some nicer black ones (admit the grey ones are way "boy") they might fit?
I used to wear mens "farah" trousers when I was 18 and was slim enough for them to look good!0 -
i have this problem with both of mine and ive been buying them the strechy elasticated ones from adams or george,i tend to stitch them in at the side a little which doesnt show and wonder web up the hems if a bit long, you would never know they had been altered:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

My sister recently got a bargain with some school trousers for my niece, she's 9 and slim.
They were way too big around the waist (no elastication to adjust them) so I just unpicked a small amount of the waistband about 2 inches away from the front zip, threaded some 3/4" elastic through and stitched it to the waistband, then sewed up the bit I'd unpicked. Does this make sense?
They fitted her great.0 -
At least you have a choice of shops and styles so have a chance of getting trousers that fit. I have to buy DD (14) from the school shop as they are the only supplier of the logo'd trousers which are compulsory.
DD is a size 6 and 5' 3" but has long legs. The trousers she needs in 24" waist (the trousers come in waist sizes and lengths) are only available in in a short or regular and DD needs long. The 25" come in a long but they fall down on her. I spent 1/2 hour in the school shop going through all the 24R looking for a pair that was longer as the length can vary by 1" and with a bit of letting down they will be long enough not to be ankle swingers.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
