Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 18th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good
Morning OS lovelies!
Sunnygirl - yes hon - just had a hospital appt this week and another car test drive which took two afternoons and I find if I don't post before I have lunch I never get back online!
Church - I am glad your son is recovering now
Fairy - thinking of you honey - take it easy now!
mrsmoneypenny -
(Belated) hon! Thanks for the slice of cake
rnshey - glad you had a good time
mummysaver - my OH DJs in Taunton twice a week even though we live quite a distance from there.
Fairy - I am so so happy for you!
Lemon Verbena - I love your name btw, and well done on the bargains!
Chrisca - I can never find tescos vouchers either, I don't think they are sending them out
Noahs - darn it, I missed the party and the food sounded perfect! Happy belated to your son!
hilstep - So sorry to hear the news about your daughter and your ex FIL.. you have really been through it.
to you honey
Thrift - hope you have a great holiday hon
Hester - Oh that seems so unfair!
Had a busy few days with hospital appointments etc, but the best news is that I have spoken to Tristan on messenger! We chatted for 4hrs yesterday! And so I am up today hoping he might be up to logging on again. He said he would, so fingers crossed. And no, I don't really know how his health is - I know Prostrate cancer as advanced as his was can't be cured but he wouldn't discuss it. Flatly refused to, so I didn't push it. He seemed quite clear headed which is the first time in months and I hope is a good sign.
OS wise - we have been doing quite well with home grown veg and had a delicious casserole with some braising steak that had been in the freezer since february but cooked up very nicely with carrots, swede, green beans and garlic from the garden and mashed potatoes. We will have the rest tonight for dinner.
Found a frog in the garden - behind the pond.. took some pics so once I can sort out flikr or something I will post them. Am fighting a daily battle against cabbage white butterfly eggs and slugs!
Anyway - I hope you all have a good weekend. Big ..
to everyone I have missed, and anyone who wants one..

Good morning Diva and all to follow :hello:
Have not been on here much lately so sorry, have lost track a bit on how everyone is.
Busy weekend ahead. DD2 is in a dance show this evening so am looking forward to that. She's done really well this year and achieved her Peggy Spencer award but now is unsure whether to continue with her class or move on.
DD1 has passed her second year uni exams with merit :j- one more year to go!
Will be doing a lot of stocking up and cooking for the freezer this weekend as we have a busy three weeks ahead at work. One of our colleagues is having to take emergency leave as her dad is unwell, so lots of long days and split shifts ahead for the rest of us.
The veg patch is not bad at the moment - lots of courgettes and runner beans, and tomotoes ripening well in the conservatory. Just need to get out and check all the cabbages today - the butterflies have been pretty active this week .
Anyway, hope everyone is ok and looking forward to a good weekend. (((hugs))) where needed, will try to do some catching up later.

Diva I'm glad that you've just been busy I was worried about you xx I'm so glad that you spoke to Tristan!
I'm up again enjoying the peace on my ownHad a lovely day yesterday - I went swimming with DS3 in the morning and we made our plans for the rest of the holidays. We've gone for about 3 or 4 activities a week most of which are inexpensive or free :money: Picnics, museums, free activities at local country parks with the Park Rangers and craft stuff if its wet are planned. He probably won't want to spend as much time with me next year so I shall make the most of it!
Plans for today are to go and see Harry Potter as we're all big fans. My Mum's coming too so we'll be en masseLunch today is beans on toast followed by a piece of fruit and dinner is spaghetti bolognese, which I'll make soon.
Love to all that need it.

Morning all
I've been up since 3:30 so I thought I'd get a head start on the housework, so far I've blitzed the kitchen, including the cooker. WM & DW are both on, I've tidied round but haven't vacuumed yet, it's still a bit early to do that. Work is very busy, usually is this time of year. Hubby's in bed nursing a chipped ankle bone & some huge bruising, he was thrown across the workshop by a tyre exploding. Apart from ministering to hubby I shall do as little as possible, the twitch is back under my eye, which is a sign I need some R & R.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning.
Missed most of the week with laziness.
Got the car back from the garage, mended, but with a large bill. At least I can tow my boat again.
Buut the weather is poor and so boating is off the cards for a while.
The garden is a mess, blown to bits and grass inches high now. What a rubbish summer again.
Don't know what to do today, need to garden a bit, and go somewhere... We shall see.
Did tesco last night. Got my 5p off fuel voucher, so 95p a litre is not too shabby in these times.
Went to court yesterday and saw a husband and wife get 2 years each for a nasty assault. I guess I was sort of shocked as they had kids and I am sure they expected at least one of them to be let off and get back home! Ouch!
I have discovered a whiskey called Penderyn from Wales. Absolutely delicious, but at £30 a bottle.... not something I shall be buying.
Well, have a good dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Good Morning Everyone,
It has been nice to read people's posts so far this morning whilst having a cuppa!
I have already put the washing on the line, fed the dogs, swept the kitchen floor and will empty the dw and put more washing on shortly. OH is working this weekend so on my own this weekend but I am doing some O/T from home so I will be busy aswell.
Picked my third courgette yesterday, have lots of tomatoes but they are still green.
Decided to get my car sorted out next week as earlier on this week it would not start so had to ask my boss if I could work from home!
Weather is nice here today so going to see if I can get some work done this morning and then enjoy a few hours off.
Hope everyone has a lovely day wherever you are0 -
Morning all,
Had a pretty laid back sort of day today. Must have pulled a muscle yesterday in my neck/shoulder so I've been milking it as much as I can.Going to the club tonight for a Christmas in July dinner. 3 courses for $15. Not bad. I don't care if I sit there like a stiff robot, I'm going out.
Put a colour in DD's hair after lunch.
Gorgeous day here. Blue skies & cool.
N9eav I must admit Penderyn is lovely. I probably kill it by adding coke & ice but that's the way I drink scotch.
Well off to read yesterdays thread. Hope you all enjoy your weekend. ByeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Good Morning Chums, well a nice bright sunny start to the day but the forecast isn't too good. Already peeled and stewed some rather wrinkly apples rather than bin them and will dollop some custard on top as soon as they have cooled down a bit.sat and scraped about a kilo of new spuds as well, and have put them in water in the fridge for cooking later .feeling quite virtuous at using up my bits and pieces in the veg basket.I have some mushrooms to peel chop and freeze as well this morning.Although we are only away for two days I hate to think of wasting anything. Went to Aldis yesterday after college and bought some peppers, grapes and half a dozen bananas for only £1.44. The bananas are apparently 49p per kilo. They will be used up over the weekend as the grandchildren will be popping in this afternoon. My eldest DGD Katie (16) is back from her holiday in the Dominican Republic looking very brown, and a bit browned off with her Dad .Apparently he booked a trip for her to swim with Dolphins then insisted that she pay for the trip out of her holiday money .She only had $300 and it cost $165 so she ran out of cash before she came home and didn't have enough to buy anything for her little brothers which miffed her no end.My ex-SIL is a real piece of work at times. He only did that because he knows that she has a little job and had saved some cash for her holiday.
Luckily she had some at home and her Mum took her to buy some small toys for the little ones when she came home before the boys got home from school.
She is a lovely kid though and because her Mum has been poorly whilst she was away she is treating her this afternoon to a trip to have her nails manicured and paying for it as a treat. My DD is so pleased and I am as well as it shows what a nice lass my DGD is growing up into despite her Father.
I have a little bit of top-coating to do on some shelves that I have been painting so that should keep me occupied this morning. I found a nice piece of steak in the freezer, so I'm having that for dinner tonight along with my new jersey spuds, and some fresh garden peas and mushrooms, followed by apples and custard . I shall dig out my case for packing tomorrow, the weather looks a bit uncertain for mMonday so I shall have to pack for all eventualities .My DD is so excited to be seeing her favourite band, apparently Snow Patrol is the support group which she assures me are good as well. I shall make sure I bring back some Gin from Holland and some nice smelly perfume for my eldest DD
Hope everyone has a brilliant week-end and the suns shines for those who are planning a BBQ
Cheers chums

N9aev - I hate Fridays as even very new clerks like me get a bunch of sentences and it can be pretty emotional. What sort of parent commits an assault that justifies two years though -the mind boggles!
dd(12) brought her report home last night - it is excellent. We celebrated with an extravagant KFC bucket last night
she also told me that her grandmother had added her on facebook. i don't have much to do with my Mum as she is mostly Tired and Emotional but my dbro has been talking about a reconciliation as his first baby is due at christmas. Well dd(12) was surprised to see on her profile page that she claims 1 child, my dsis, and seems to have forgotten me and my 2 bros. I'm not entirely happy about her having contact with dd(12) but dd is very sensible and i suppose it's her choice.
Brian the Warrior Princess Kitty is supposed to be going to the vets today for a check up but i'm going to reschedule that. dd(12) has a birthday party next saturday that's on the way to the vets so it makes sense to go then and keep today clear for the usual weekend house blitz. Need to fix my bike wheel so that i can do a proper meal plan and shop for the week.
fingers crossed dd(20) is having a bettertime with this pregnancy - she is still bleeding but only a bit and is not as sick as before. She did say yesterday though that she was having her daily toilet hugging session in the bathroom and her son(4) brought her a blankie and a glass of water and stroked her cheek. When she thanked him he shrugged and said "no worries. you do the same for me" Bless!
Hester - rest up - i get a twitchy eye to and it's a warning to slow down
have good days all
stefI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -

Morning,
never did make it back on here yesterday to catch up...
MSDiva, I expect you have a smile now you have managed to speak to Tristan again.
Hilstep, as others have said, what a tough week - try & look after you, as well as everyone else. ((hugs)))
Hester  for your DH!! Hope he feels less bruised very soon... I have never liked putting air in my tyres because I worry they will go pop.
Sunnygirl, wow you sound incredibly organised for the summer already, I am in awe
Aussie - definitely milk it!!! And enjoy your Christmas dinner - reminds me of one of my DD's asking when Xmas was in Australia. Because the seasons are the opposite way round, she thought it was genuinely in our summer
Stefjb, awww bless your DGS looking after his mummy. Know what you mean re FB - I know my DD's have the man who their grandmother (ex inlaws) is married to on their "friends" list - it bugs the hell out of me that they can get a sense of our lives when they choose to pretend I haven't existed for the past 8 years  But it's my DD's choice I suppose.
Into town this morning, need to get a couple of bits (and taking my mum & 2 DD's as well), then later the usual straightening out of the kitchen, unloading/loading DW, do a load or two of washing to hang out as it's breezy & sunny.
Will do chicken drumsticks/thighs for supper, maybe with couscous & roasted veg I think. I have some carrot soup left that I made yesterday which I will have for lunch.
Have a good day all & ((hugs)) for those needing them.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0
