learner driver automatic?
Comments

I found i forgot how to work the gears if i didn't drive for 2 weeks (i'm a learner too!) and i'd be looking at my feet and driving towards trees...
now i've got an auto ford galaxy (don't even ask about the insurance as i'm 24 and its huge) and i love driving it. it takes all the stress away. A local driving instructor takes me out in it at a reduced rate of £15 per hour as i'm paying the petrol and insurance!
I think going auto was the best thing i ever did! Now i may actually pass my test someday!
you should buy a go kart, they are even easier to drive....work permit granted!0 -
Oh - a test like they have in the States?goldspanners wrote: »i honestly think there should be no auto or manual test unless the student is disabled and will need to drive an auto or specially adapted vehicle.
able bodied folk should take one driving test in a manual car, then once you pass this test drive an auto or a manual. there is no point in restricting yourself to only autos or similarly retake the manual test it just means more money later on. learning the gears is a simple thing and takes very little time.
I'm all for that! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Out there you take one test - in an auto. After that, you can drive stick shift too...
Goldie - there are too many new laws and restrictions being thrown at us every day of the week, 52 weeks a year. Lets have a bit of freedom of choice somewhere in this country...Genie

That is SO patronising! I expect better from you. Oh - lets all go out and buy a Chieftain tank shall we? Cos they are hard to drive and why should we choose something that is easy?
That theory stinks Goldie poos...Genie

they want to be able to see thier feet whilst driving, a go kart allows this without taking your eyes off the road,it was a serious suggestion
if you learn to drivie soemthing that is a bit challenging then where is the harm in that? especially if it restricts the rest of your time as a driver without the need for any additional training.
everyone should take thier test in an artic, then everything smaller than that will be a doddle.;)
there are far too many lazy driver out there, who dont indicate, dont have any patience, dont check thier mirrors, and if they do they still pull out anyway.
taking an auto test without good reason is either lazyness or inability to drive, none of these qualities are desirable on our roads....work permit granted!0 -

Some can only drive auto's for a number of reasons - it does not make them a bad or lazy driver! You are being extremely narrow minded and old for your age.
I drive auto - it doesn't make me lazy - it gives me a chance to multi task with my left hand.........

Passing a manual test gives you the choice of which car to drive. Passing an auto test restricts you in the future.jeannieblue wrote: »Lets have a bit of freedom of choice somewhere in this country...0 -
Not posted on here before, but had to reply to this really stupid post. I can drive what ever car I want, if I want to only automatics that's nothing to do with you. If I wanted ot restrict myself futher and say I'd only drive eg red cars, that's also nothing to do with you.goldspanners wrote: »i honestly think there should be no auto or manual test unless the student is disabled and will need to drive an auto or specially adapted vehicle.

Why on earth do I need to 'leave my options open'? Automatic cars exist, they will always exist, so I'll always have cars to drive.
People I spoke to when I was deciding what sort of car to drive said equally stupid things eg 'driving a manual is so much more fun!' 'a manual car feels so much more powerful!' 'I feel so much more in control in a manual' 'it feels like I'm going faster in a manual so I prefer those'. It's a car, not a toy, it's a way of getting from one place to another, not something that exists to make me feel big and powerful.0
