Bank daily limit on foreign currency

I currently bank with Abbey and have been told that they have a £300 cash limit if you are buying foreign currency (including on line). Do other banks do this? I was told that I simply couldn't do it, not even ringing in advance for authorisation and the first time I tried buying currency from the Post Office on line, the bank blocked my card. Any ideas of how to get around this, as you get better deals or free delivery on orders over £300. (I'm aware you can order online if you do it well in advance by bankers draft or similiar).
Thanks
