Iphone apps/capacity question

Considering the 16gb iphone 3G S

Just wondered of that 16gb what is actually live and available for use? On my ipod 20gb I cant use the whole 20 due to the pre-installed software etc.

I have around 10gb of music on my ipod at the moment, and if I transfer that to the iphone will I be left with precious little space for apps or is most of that 16gb available?

I read that apps dont take up much space anyway, is this accurate?

U will have loads of space mate, iv only got about 110 songs on mine but have 5 pages of apps and still have 12 gb left, u start off with about 14.5 I think

It depends on the App, some are small and some take up huge amounts of space. It depends how much data there is, and if there is video or sound associated with the app. The game Myst, for instance, uses over 500Mb. And I'm sure the upcoming SatNav apps will use lots for maps and what not.

It does say in the App Store description for each app how large they are.
