  • Good thread, Bothered! Another one which may interest those trying to profit from selling boot sale bargains on eBay is the Trash To Cash Challenge thread

Trying to research prices of everything you might find at a car boot sale is likely to give you a headache - it's best to pick one or two areas of interest initially, or if you go to boot sales a lot, search for the sorts of things that you've seen which you think might be worth getting.

I think (though I'm not certain) that if you start buying things expressly to sell them again then you are essentially operating as a business/money making concern and may at least be liable for tax on your profits. Can someone else clarify this?

Still, if the profit margin is big enough it's well worth looking into, thanks for an interesting post!

  • excuse my ignorance but how can you tell if a book is a first edition?
  • excuse my ignorance but how can you tell if a book is a first edition?
It's not always straightforward. Some books will have all previous editions listed on the flyleaf, some will just list the date of first publication and of the current edition, but others make no mention of any previous editions, so some research may be required. Maybe someone who knows more about books can answer in more detail.
I recently bought a book of angling cartoons which I am fairly confident is a first because it still had a review slip inside!

Last year at easter I managed to pick up some really good items at boot fairs to sell on ebay...sounds strange but let me explain...

Just an idea for any of you out there wanting a little extra income but you have to be prepared to take a risk and buy up the items first, and 100% research what you want to buy before doing so, if you browse completed listing on ebay you can see whats been sold for what price.

    Anyway good luck. :D

Please can you tell me how to find 'completed listings' on the ebay site..i can't seem to find the link. thanks

You go to advanced search and theres a box you can tick. HTH.

    Heres the link:

The box is under the search box, it says Completed listings only
