A tip for those Easter boot fairs !

Last year at easter I managed to pick up some really good items at boot fairs to sell on ebay...sounds strange but let me explain...
If you are keen to sell on ebay to reduce your debts then I suggest you try this..browse ebay really really well and see what is selling and not...we are not talking new items (nor buy it now items). I did this with some really good results last year, I browsed the following words mostly "shabby chic", "vintage chic" etc and you will be surprised what people were paying for items with this theme..like cath kidston spots etc.
So at the boot fair I picked up what I knew would sell well, for instance, I got 4 vintage laura ashley fabric childrens cushions with feather inners for £1. I took them home washed them up and sold them on ebay for £30. :T I would avoid china as it breaks a lot in postage, go for easy items to post. another item I sold a lot of was partylite candles and holders, often you find ex-demo stuff being sold off cheap at boot fairs and this sold well for me on ebay too. I think I had about £150 worth of kit paid less than £15 and sold it all on ebay for roughly £120.
Just an idea for any of you out there wanting a little extra income but you have to be prepared to take a risk and buy up the items first, and 100% research what you want to buy before doing so, if you browse completed listing on ebay you can see whats been sold for what price.
Here's one I missed out on  I saw an old enamel watering can (ashley style) and the lady only wanted 50p for it but I thought a bit awkward to post so I left it...got home went on ebay and the exact same watering can had sold the night previous for wait for it...£27...could have kicked myself. :rotfl:
Anyway good luck.

I think (though I'm not certain) that if you start buying things expressly to sell them again then you are essentially operating as a business/money making concern and may at least be liable for tax on your profits. Can someone else clarify this?
Still, if the profit margin is big enough it's well worth looking into, thanks for an interesting post!Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94

The way I see it is that if you buy up second hand items at boot fairs they become your possessions and therefore if you want to then sell them on ebay then thats personal not a business!!
I do think the tax man has picked up on ebay businesses like the ebay shops etc and if I was selling anything from suppliers to my business on ebay I would put it through the books.Official DFW Nerd - Member no. 045

I think the rules regarding tax are if its something you already own indoors and are selling it it's not liable for tax but if you buy in specifically to sell on it is..Thing is this is a very grey area as you could say 'well I bought it for myself then decided I didn't like it' then sell it on
Where the line is drawn noone really seems to know..
I think the taxman is really after the bigger sellers at the moment as Bothered has said but its probably only a matter of time before ole Gordy gets his share.. :eek:0 -
I guess it comes down to a matter of scale and as you both point out it is where you happen to draw the line - you never know some DFW's may become so successful at this that even the taxman notices!!!!Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94

Most fairs are busy over Easter, I always found the best ones are the not so big ones...as you get a lot of traders at the bigger ones and people look rather than buy.!
