Hi all, due to be adverse info free in October and was wanting to apply for a mainstream card(got Cap1) 1yr worth of green (0s) Should I apply in November for mainstream?

I dont want to be declined due to lack of history! so should I apply in November for a catalogue and build up up more history b4 I apply for card.

If so which Catalogues are best. Mark.

Or should I apply for Vanquis today still with ccj on file!

It's just to build up more history.

Do you have a CCJ on your credit file?
If so, then I would be amaze if you can get a mainstream CC and your CCJ will stay on your file for the next 5 to 6 years. It might even be very difficult to get a catalogue account with a CCJ

The ccj is due off in October also, this will just leave me with my cap 1 card which will be full of green (0s)

That is all that I will have on my file! so was just trying to get more history so it mekes things look better when I hopefully go Mainstream in November.

If your CCJ due date is in October then I would advise you to check regularly your credit file with Equifax/Experian from October and wait for your credit file to be duly updated before you apply for anything else. Applying for credit either CC/catalogue while a CCJ is still in place would make things worth on your credit report and would make it even more difficult for you to get credit in the future

I would think you would be able to apply for a whole range of cards, as long as your income and ID stack up. Just wanted to add that my current Cap1 limit is £7500, which is pretty mainstream, I think! But you can't apply for an upgrade with them - they don't let you.

Go for the card that suits you best, in terms of low interest for carrying a balance, or rewards if you can clear it every month.

    Good luck.

Think you need to ignore this, the op has stated that he has a ccj so mainstream will not touch until removed. I would advice a jdwilliams account as they dont seem to check.

I think by trying to apply for some credit now you will be declined due to your CCJ no one will touch you with a bargepole, and a search will be recorded on your credit file. Credit had the moment is extremely difficult to come by even for people with excellent credit history

Definitely wait until your CCJ drops off before applying for credit.

TBH an application before this would be a waste of time. Good Luck.

Sorry, I meant apply after the CCJ had dropped, not apply immediately. I wasn't very clear...
  • one way to raise your credit rating score it to take out a few "pay as you go" credit cards with mycashplus.com who have a credit builder plan which allows you to show a 100% perfect loan repayment plan for 12 months. The great thing is that you don't have to borrow any real money and the service costs just £5 per month and includes a top-up credit card. So you can use the card(s) to buy things just by topping them up and you can build your credit rating at the same time.
