Sky

Hi guys. I am after a bit of advice for my mum.

We have had Sky for as long as I can remember - back in the day when the screen used 2 look like a barcode and said "please wait" whilst you changed the channel. We've always paid the full subscription.

We now have got a Sky HD box which means you have to pay a further £10 a month to view the HD channels.

We also decided to change the phone line over from BT.

So we have the full subscription, the HD box and phone line with them.

When we enquired to also change the broadband over they had the cheek to try and charge a £60 set up/connection fee.

We rang up the customer services department who were adamant that they could not waiver the fee and the most they could knock off was £15 even though there are no charges for new customers.

This is not fair at all especially since we have everything with them and have been customers for 16 years.

Has anyone had any luck getting them to back down over the charges they try charge?

As you say they are treating you unfairly and are taking the proverbial wee wee IMHO.

Are you under a new contract for any of the other services you have taken out? If you are not tied in then I would phone retentions and tell them you are thinking of leaving altogether due to the shoddy way you have been treated and that if they could possibly waive this fee and get your broadband connected you may be persuaded to stay!

Sky make the following charges if you add broadband.
Set-up fee: Sky Broadband set-up fees for existing Sky TV customers £60 for Base, £30 for Everyday & Connect or £0 for Unlimited.

The £60 is a one off charge and you are given a wireless router as part of the package.
I assume you don't intend to use the 'net much as the 2Mb package has a download cap of 2Gb
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Hi, to the OP - I've just been on to Sky about their broadband & phone and have got them to waive the £30 set up charge which should apply. I just asked if they ever have special offers on where they offer loyal, existing customers the same waived fee that they offer new customers as I was really interested in signing up but the set up charge is putting me off. The guy said he would see what he could do to circumvent his system, which was trying to charge the £30, and he was able to do it. Don't know what he did but it is possible. Hope this helps and you get some satisfaction with them.
