Internet usage on mobile by accident-hefty bill

hello
Found out last week my husband has left his phone in pocket for last 3 months and connected to internet, for 3 months had huge bills and decided not to tell me  or do anything about it! Over 3 months his phone bills have totalled £550  Now we are struggling at moment with debt and wondered if wo could claim any of it back???

I thought most networks have a maximum cost per day, I think O2 is a £0.98.
How did he get to £550? Have you got a breakdown of it all?

That doesn't sound right ? If it was on one web page all the time you'd have the cost of that page and then nothing more unless another page was loaded...
And wouldn't the battery have run down in 3 months ??

Add an unlimited package onto your account for £5 or £7.50 dependant on the network, avoid the hefty bills.

I don't think your husband is telling the whole story. As Jon 01 says, internet charges are based on data, not time connected, so if it was on the same page the charge would be minimal. And batteries don't last 3 months.
Have you seen the actual bill?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
