£18,000 in debt and can't seem to get out of it...

  • Hi all,

    Thanks for your replies.

I haven't posted for a bit because I have been trying to get my head around things and seeing if I could manage it all!!...

I am still out of work - but have a couple of interviews this week so fingers crossed... but guess what? - we seem to be doing better with me not working than when I was!! - Doesn't make sense at all.. but hey.

We have managed to clear most of our overdraft and we are now only £20 overdrawn with my husband getting paid on Friday... So much better than the situation we were finding ourselves in.

It's extremely hard because we are managing on (what we consider to be) a very low household budget of approx £80-100 a week and we're not buying anything else - we can't carry on like this indefinitely because we're not able to save anything for clothes for our daughter, or ANY treats etc - or emergencies (!!) but for the time being things are ticking over and we are still managing to pay more than the minimum on all our debts.

I just wanted to post really to say that I am feeling more positive about things and to prove that even the most out of control situation can be controlled... with some sheer will power and grit!

Thank you to everyone who helped to kick me into shape..

I will let you know how it goes... !! Fingers crossed I will get a new job soon and that will give us some lee way... !

Well done - it's surprising how much you cna save whilst one of you is at home, and how much better making a dent in the debts makes you feel.
    Good Luck with the interviews.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
