Samsung Jet or Pixon??

I've been looking for a new phone for ages, and finally whittled it down to these two (Samsung Jet and Pixon)! I can get them both on exactly the same contract with Orange (£20 Racoon) with more or less the same cashback via Quidco, give or take a tenner, but really don't know which to go for.

I really want a good camera, so Pixon's 8MP seems great, plus it's girly and pink! Though no Wifi. But Jet is lovely and new and got great reviews everywhere and got Wifi, though only 5MP. Would this be good enough?

I'm a fairly light user generally, but like the idea of being able to take snaps without filling my bag up with another gadget - I carry enough of the kids stuff around as it is! Hubby is well into photography and has 'proper gear', and while I know a camera phone wont ever be as good as a proper camera, I'd like something that takes half decent snaps to show him!

So what's a girl to do? Anyone?

hey im also considering these two! ( after dis-regsrding the tocco ultra after using it in the shop )

id like to ask what sites you have seen the £20 deals for both and i havent heard of Quidco, so prehaps you could explain this?

    thank you
  • I've had the Pixon for about 6 months, and must say I don't miss the wifi as the browser for mobile web is good enough for me.

The camera as far as phone cams go is superb. I have all the 'proper' camera gear too, but have taken plenty of piccies and videos with the pixon that I have been more than happy with. It's great if out and about and just need to take a quick shot of the other half, the kids or the dog.
As a phone, it has done everything I need it to do more than adequately.

Don't know the jet so I'll let someone else sing its praises.

    Hi uk honey!

Quidco is a cashback website where you register for free, then when you click through to the shopping sites (eg Dialaphone, Carphonewarehouse etc) they give you a certain amount of money back - it varies with each dealer. Cashback websites are explained fully here.

I've found the Samsung Jet on !!!!!!!!!!!!! beepy dot co dot uk (won't let me add link for some reason??). I'm going to go for the Orange Racoon 20 deal, which is 300 texts, 200 xnet minutes and unlimited landline calls for £19.57 per month. Going through Quidco also gives you £40 cashback. Phone costs £2.99.

The Samsung Pixon is also on beepy, again on Racoon, so £19.57 per month plus £40 cashback through Quidco plus a free Apple iPod Shuffle 1GB Silver! Or you could go through buymobilephones.net, same Racoon 20 deal and get £30 auto cashback from buymobilephones and £20 Quidco!

So all I have to do now is decide which one I want! Thanks Ponkington, that's very useful. Just need a view on the Jet now to settle it!

Edit : Just had a quick search and it looks as if beepy aren't 100% reliable. May be worth looking round a bit more before going with them.

If you have the time, perhaps it would be a good idea to pop into a local mobile shop and see if you could try it out?

I believe that holding the phone in your hands and trying to use it for a bit helps a lot in making a decision - there are always little quirks in every mobile phone model which feature sets don't talk about, like how smoothly you can get around the phone's functions or combinations of gestures/keypresses to do things - it's these little details that can help decide if you'll enjoy the next 18 months using the phone. :)

I personally think the Samsung Jet is currently the best bargain mobile phone on the market. It has everything you can ask for in a phone. The AMOLED screen is superb and it has better resolution than the iPhone. I'd go for the Jet over the Pixon defo!!! :)

I have been looking at exactly the same two phones but can't use any of the new customer offers for Orange as I already have a contract with them.

I've found the following deal on Beepy with T-Mobile, which gives you £40 cashback through Quidco:

    T-Mobile network
    200 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    £19.57 per month
    Samsung Jet handset - £11.99
  • I'm currently approaching the end of my o2 contract, and am considering a few phones...the Jet and Pixon being two of them. The other is the iPhone...but do I really want to join the iPhone brigade. I went into my local Vodafone shop to have a play with the Jet. They were really helpful, and left me in a corner happily playing away for about 20minutes...before coming over with the N97 and HTC MAgic for me to test as well.

My dilema, along with the phone, is do i stay with o2. Currently been with them for 8years, and on a stormer of a retention at the moment. However, not sure this will continue with any new/upgrade contract I take out. I currently get 1000mins and 1000texts for £20/month!

Am looking for a contract with internet built into price, and a shiny new phone....hmmmm, decisions decisions decisions!

I'd never even thought of P4U...and having had a look on teir website they have some good choices. Hopefully I'll be able to play off the £30 offered on quidco to get some kind of further discount from them.

    Thanks splicecom

I went for the Jet in the end, and am more than happy with the camera on it - excellent pics and more functions to manipulate them with than you can shake an iPhone at!

However, word of warning- if you get it on Orange (like I did) there are NO Facebook, Youtube or Google maps widgets. Instead Orange have put all their rubbish on it. I have managed to download Googlemaps, and can access the others via the internet, but it's a bit annoying that something which is on all the adverts has been removed by Orange. If anyone happens to know how to get those widgets (and remove the Orange ones!) I'd be interested! (they aren't under the widgets settings, or in 'more widgets').

As for the phone itself, I haven't had any problems with it. The screen is fantastically clear and sharp, and no problems with texting or calls. The video function is also excellent. The only thing it really lacks is a cover for the lens, but I guess you can't have everything at this price!

BTW, I ordered it from Beepy mobile, arrived next day and tracked £40 Quidco, so no probs there!
