Alamo car hire at LAX

I would definitely recommend a satnav as well no matter how good you are at map reading, it will make all your journeys stress less and more enjoyable, and of course if you hear that something is worth a visit, tap it in and off you go. I used one in and we were visiting so many places that we normally wouldn't venture to. When I got back to the UK I put it on ebay and got pretty much exactly what I paid for it thus making it free.

That not bad, use it in the UK and the USA for £100, remember in California its illegal to stick your sat nav to the windscreen.

you need the purple sign outside the terminal...buses run every 5-10mins
i wouldnt bother with roadside assist , and be aware they will try to push all other kinds of add ons too...check what you sign for before leaving
ive driven there lots of times without a sat nav , but if you can afford the £100 to buy one then it would make things easier for sure0 -
tomtom have 25% off their maps at the moment, if you register they also give you £10 cash to disount off them, US region maps are £24 or something like so about £14 gets you the map, so if you have a sat nav already its a bargain.
Been to the US loads of times and never used one but will be next trip just to make it easier. There are times when you are looking for an exit and the signs are right on top of it so sat nav will definately help. Try getting one with lane assist the new versions this should also help.0 -
Alamo will definately provide a shuttle bus to get to their depo to collect your car, Roadside Plus as above might give you peice of mind but I would say its an expensive bit of insurance. Personally I never sign for anything extra locally. I would advise reading your rental agreement fully and asking questions if you see anything you dont understand.
I bought a satnav in Florida last year and it worked out cheaper than hiring one, but I went for 3 weeks.0 -

How do they use them then? Do they have different mounts and if so where can you buy them?0 -

Not wholly true. From 1 January 2009 the following applies in California:
Another new law, SB 1567, requires portable GPS devices that are affixed to a vehicle windshield to be placed either in a seven-inch square in the lower right corner of the windshield or in a five-inch square in the lower left corner, while the vehicle is being driven. Motorists may still mount a GPS device on top of the dashboard as long as it doesn't block their view of the road. The device must not be placed so that it interferes with the deployment of an air bag. The fine for a violation is approximately $108 including penalties, depending on the county.
