So you:
1. Unofficially went to the Canteen at the start of your shift instead of working
2. Took an unofficial break for a fag and a phonecall
3. Refused to work
Toast!
But I am sure you won't see what is wrong with any of the above.Life is too short to drink bad wine!0 -
It looks like a plan of action is unfolding.
The letter sounds like a great idea.
Is there a security gate or reception you could hand something in that was addressed to the HR office .
In it I would mention your change of heart ,Maybe after discussions with the wife .who impressed on you your duties as a Father to your two children.
I would mention how hard you have worked to learn your job and what a waste it would be to lose all that you have worked at.
The only thing you could do in preparation for the meeting would be to get something off your GP to verify your bladder problems. This could be something you could appear to be reluctant to bring up due to it's personal nature.
If you can't get anything to vouch for this problem then I find it hard how you can raise the issue and defend it.
The truth is your probably going to have to eat a lot of humble pie to keep your job ..
If that is what you have to do ....Then go and do it ..You have a couple of kids and a wife so you do have responsibilities and the winds of recession are still blowing so if you can do this to keep a job it is much easier than going through the whole process of finding another.
I like the idea of offering to train up people ..I would probably ask if the process can be looked at to see if things can be altered a bit to make it work better.
Good luck ..
You know ...If you really want to improve the place you work in you will need to become a manager yourself ....
I would also find a new place to drink coffee ....0 -
Assuming there is going to be some sort of formal meeting...
- I would suggest apologising for the comment when you were originally in the canteen. You clearly overstepped the mark, regardless of whether you realised it at the time and/or intended it. It might even cast you in a better light.
- It is the case that it is the job of a manager to assign tasks to the workers. That is their job. Evidently you can't have people picking and choosing what they want to do. It is also their job to ensure that the tasks assigned are reasonable or they are not doing their job properly.
- You need to be clear about why you refused to do the job. Did it need training, had you done it before, etc., or did you just not want to do it.

Wondered at that myself - unless the place is a coffee shop, and it doesn't sound like one.
I really enjoy my job, as do most of the people I work with, but I certainly wouldn't spend my own time hanging around there, and neither would anyone else I know.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
I have a question, was your work open to the public at 3am?:money: giving me & my darling boys a better cheaper life

So:
...The job you dislike, you say you can't do because you aren't trained and it's breaking H&S regs....It is unskilled I would imagine but each different job within teh warehouse requires training by a Training work instructor. Which then has to be signed off by a work instructor and the employee before teh employee can do that job on his own. With this job and how complex it is they have sort of forgotten to writeup a training module for it.
...Yet you have accepted carring out another "superior" job for 2yrs without any training and openly admit breaking H&S regs?My issue is I was put on there as punishment, I am fed up of doing that task which is far superior to any other job in the warehouse whilst being paid the same as those that can't do it. Out of about 60 staff there is only 5 of us that can do this task so I end up doing it a lot whilst receiving no extra pay. After 2 years of doing this task I still haven't received any official training and have had to at times improvise as I go. I am expected to take things off of the side of the chute despite not receiving training to do so, So therefor breaking health and safety regulations but I get put under pressure to take the stuff of the side of the chutes because if I don't and take it off where it should be taken off then the machine will stop and my final issue is due the amount of trays that come down that chute some of them are very heavy and has done my back in so each time I do that task I end up in considerable pain.
From what you have said so far it sounds more like you cannot accept a reasonable request to move to another job than the manager taking things personally.

well said mate, sounds very true, anyone in the area of forkliftsetc whilst !!!!ed should automatically be bladderedSausage_Roll wrote: »Refusal to follow a reasonable request from a manager : Gross misconduct in any occupation.
You turned up to your workplace intoxicated and got away with it - you should have been thanking your lucky stars for that, not giggling about your boss's girlfriend.
To be blunt, it sickens me that there are people in employment acting like this, when there are plenty of decent people desperately looking for work (and no I'm not on a vendetta I am employed).
You deserve to be sacked, whether you will be or not depends on your begging skills I reckon.0
