so being suspended but being told that your actions will lead to disciplinary action is wrong???
i didnt think it was but i dont know employment law'Sometimes you just need to keep your mouth shut':j0 -
Think your missing the point slightly, I wasn't !!!!ed, I had one or two drinks, It was 3 am in the morning and we wanted a coffee, Others have done it whilst being far more !!!!ed. We wasn't joking about his girlfriend. We are friends with her so asked if we could see her, Instead of saying no she is working he got on his high horse.
Well yes, I missed it if your point was "you weren't !!!!ed". One can be intoxicated without being "!!!!ed", and intoxicated people and work environments don't go well together. Regardless, you refused a reasonable request from a manager; doesn't matter if you think it's some sort of personal revenge, in a hearing bringing up your supposed evidence (this night you were drunk) would only add a few more nails to your coffin.I don't joke about my job, I take it very seriously but when things are being done because it is personal then that sickens me and I wont take it.
And I hate to break it to you, but managers can be !!!!!! sometimes, but there's not a lot you can do about if you want to keep your job. Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.
I am NOT a sausage roll.0 -
You want a coffee at 3 am after you've been drinking maybe you should go to a late night service station instead of your place of work. You have no idea how drunk you were since you were drunk. Your judgement cannot be trusted.
Frankly you're lucky to keep your job after that bull. Then you start getting all full of yourself and refuse to do a job, even by your own admission, that is within your job description.
If you need training then ask for it in writing. Don't just say "I'm not doing that!" and give them even more ammo to fire you. Frankly if you manage to keep your job then you're very lucky.0 -
I agree with basicly everyone on here, You turn up to work after drinking = You deserve to be sacked.0

I think a few people are getting a bit judgemental here.
This is what I seem to have so far.
You went to your place of work in your own time .And you did not need to work the next day.
You were not in your place of work but in a rest area and you had been drinking but was not drunk.
Could you tell us whether the company has any policies in place regarding this (what seems a pretty grey area).
Not that any of it is relevant to your suspension.
You have unfortunately refused a direct request whilst at work...This again is not a problem ..As long as you have a valid reason ..
If for example ,you knew the task was unsafe or that you were not qualified then you have a pretty good defence ....If you tell them it was a job you did not like ...Well ..Even you can see how they are going to read it ...
Good luck ..And I like the idea of a work place that people would like to go to out of hours ...But you will be on a hiding to nothing if you go in fighting the wrong battle ..
This is now all about why you would not do the work you was asked to do whilst expecting to be paid.0 -
Sorry OFTBC but you sound like your own worst enemy - turning up worse the wear for drink at your place of work at 3AM in the morning for a drink of coffee, then refusing a reasonable request from your manager."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Thatnks for a good post, Lets make this clear I Have been suspended for refusing to do a specific task and not due to the weekend where I entered the preemies whilst I had a tiny amount of alcohol in my system.I think a few people are getting a bit judgemental here.

I think I was put on that job I dislike doing because he knows I dislike doing it because he couldn't get me on anything because of what happened at the weekend.
I have never refused a request before, But this time as I felt it was personal I wasn't willing to do it, In my defence I think I Should bring up the matter that someone refused to do the same job only last week and they put him on a different job instead. Also only on Tuesday a team leader refused to do a job so they swapped me over with him. Yet I Refuse to do something and I get suspended.
My issue is I was put on there as punishment, I am fed up of doing that task which is far superior to any other job in the warehouse whilst being paid the same as those that can't do it. Out of about 60 staff there is only 5 of us that can do this task so I end up doing it a lot whilst receiving no extra pay. After 2 years of doing this task I still haven't received any official training and have had to at times improvise as I go. I am expected to take things off of the side of the chute despite not receiving training to do so, So therefor breaking health and safety regulations but I get put under pressure to take the stuff of the side of the chutes because if I don't and take it off where it should be taken off then the machine will stop and my final issue is due the amount of trays that come down that chute some of them are very heavy and has done my back in so each time I do that task I end up in considerable pain.0 -
Hmmmm
so your not trained to do the job but you have been doing this task for 2 years.
And. you think you were given the task as a punishment even tho you have been doing it for 2 years as only 5 people can do it.
just face it, he did get one up on you and your plan to get him back has backfired.0 -
This is an 'interesting post'.
If there is a 'culture' of staff dropping in for a coffee while not at work which is permitted by management, then turning up drunk, or not, if you are not at work it makes no difference - you are a socialy visitor - or have I misunderstood this completely.
For a manager then to get the hump over banter makes no sense - he had until then permitted this coffee visit. To then try and disciline 1 from the group, would I suggest smack of bullying.
If his attempt to sack you then failed, his subsiquent actions on the next time you met could be thought of as working towards 'constructive dismissal'.
Are you in a union, if not talk to the CAB.
I would say that I would not wish to employ either you or your manager, there seems to be an poor attitude in the posts, but neither of you have acted in a way you can be proud of.
The best outcome would be for everyone to calm down and move on, otherwise suggest constructive dismissal and let the HR dept squirm.0
