  • Hi all

New to posting but have been reading this thread for ages!!

Anyway - we are planning a family holiday to Florida in summer holidays 2016.

I really just wanted to begin by asking (in todays prices I know in 2 years they'll go up a bit) how much should we expect to pay for flights? At the time of flying the children will be 16, 7 and 5 years old.

Obviously we're restricted to term time holidays due to kids being in school.

Further info - we'll be booking a Villa and hiring a car and we HAVE to fly direct due to wifes phobia of flying - getting her on one plane each ay will be hard enough :rotfl:

if you go straight on to alamo site the extra driver isn't included but if you do a search for free additional driver then click on alamo though that you get the free driver I've done this for the last 3 years
last year i could have up to 3 extras for nothing:D

Will haggle when I get there - same car on Alamo would have been £308!

Can anyone recommend what/where to avoid on Labor day (or suggest where to go)? Just putting together my planner and am a bit stuck as not sure how busy places will be.

    Thanks all!

Hey, I am going to Florida next week for the first time, staying in a villa with myself my partner, sister her husband and their 3 kids. I'm overly excited!

I wanted to ask your advice about sim cards, we want to be able to keep in contact with each other in case of emergency or if we need to contact, what's the best way to do it, is there a particular sim card we could get? We all have iPhones but not sure whether to just suck it up and pay the bills when we get back or buy a payge sim or something similar over there.

    advice appreciated :)

    Thanks

I wondered as well, as I just realized we will be there during Labor Day weekend! Rumour has it shopping discounts are quite good, so hoping this is the case.

Had a look at Touring Plans for the parks, and actually it doesn't look to be a big spike in visitors for the weekend. Hoping this is the case, but I too would love to hear from anyone who may have been there during Labor Day weekend! One more week to go!

Shopping discounts for Labor Day are normally shown in the supplements in the Orlando Sentinel on the Sunday before. Actually that goes for all sales... black Friday, Veterans Day, etc...

Should add.. with the US minor holidays there is a spike but it isn't as big as for Easter, Christmas, 4th July etc. The spike also tends to pass pretty quickly, so will be a minor blip in the course of a standard British visit to Orlando... we tend to go to Disney for two weeks whereas the average American visit tends to be much shorter, I think it is about 4 days. If you are visiting parks during those dates just be there for opening and you will be fine.

Sorry, meant to edit rather than quote myself but hit wrong button on tablet and realised too late.
