Why on earth don't they put the rate at the top of the account when you view it online? They do with most other accounts, and why is it not in the list of previous interest rates?
Infuriating! I will certainly be checking my interest very carefully when the account matures.
i know what you mean, i will be checking mine very carefully too, as i opened at 6%
edit just checked my papers, as i opened it online, luckilly i printed off the page confirming the standard account info (which shows the interest rate also) on the same day as i applied. (12th december)
the account though has the maturity date of 18th december this year, rather than the 12th (18th december 2008) appears to be the date the first standing order cleared into the account
i am having problems with my barclays monthly saver as they have for some reason dropped the interest for no apparent reason on the fixed account, so cant be so unlucky to have it happen twice lol!MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
Does anyone know if the 1st deposit has to be made by S/O or can it be via transfer from another Halifax account or BACS/FP from an external a/c ? This info doesn't seem to be availbale online or if it is I can't find it !
In branch, I made the inititial payment immediately from another HBOS account. But this can't be a condition of the account as the one I just opened over the phone did not require immediate funding. The 12-months period starts with the day the first payment reaches the account.
All 13 payments can be made from different sources on different days via BACS or FP, which is what I have been doing for years.Dagobert0 -
Hi guys... the link is now showing the interest rate as 4%.
Am I looking in the wrong place or has this now dropped?
LinkyNo hassle - just save any amount between £100 and £2,000 every month for 12 months by standing order only and get a great rate of 4% AER**/Gross* p.a. fixed for a year. For example - save £500 every month and earn £129.53 gross* interest after 12 months0 -

Just out of curiousity,
Can Halifax RS have more than 13 payments via SO, as long as total payment in a calendar month is less than 500 pounds?
Thanks0 -

Yes, you can do 13 payments if you time the opening correctly i.e.

2. £500 on Sept 1st (account then has 1k in it earning 5%).
3. £500 on Oct 1st. (£1500)
4. £500 on Nov 1st. (£2000)
5. £500 on Dec 1st. (£2500)
6. £500 on Jan 1st. (£3000)
7. £500 on Feb 1st. (£3500)
8. £500 on March 1st. (£4000)
9. £500 on Apr 1st. (£4500)
10. £500 on May 1st. (£5000)
11. £500 on Jun 1st. (£5500)
12. £500 on Jul 1st. (6000)
13. £500 on Aug 1st. (£6500)

I've opened one today, and thank god that I'd already gone through all the ID loops when I opened the ISA, it was quite straight forward.
Just finished creating the standing order from my current account bank now.Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
I guess some of you have received your interest by now and as our one matures tomorrow I wondered if you got your 5% without any problems. We both recall being seduced into opening the account by a poster in the window offering 6% which we think was 5% plus a 1% bonus on the anniversary. Does anyone else recall this (in August 2009)?0
