That's a very good point Ray. They can't close Regular Savers in branch that have a balance of £0 (I've tried), they said it'll automatically close in a couple of months after the payments have been missed.

If I wanted to get the 5% one, I'd probably put £25 into my existing (former 12%) Regular Saver, and then I would be able to close it in branch. Seems a curious way around it, but it's the only way I can think of.

Of course, you could just make the first payment in, and then wait for the certificate to come through, which will confirm the rate. But I would be very surprised if you got 5%, as the T&Cs are very clear on this point, regardless of what you have been told.

That hasn't happened with the one I opened in August 2007 and funded for 12 months.
It has been sitting there with £0 balance for 11 months now.
In the last couple of days they have sent me a letter informing me the original linked account had been closed and could I call them to nominate another to receive the proceeds when the account matures on the 8th of August!

OK. Decision made. Will pay £500 on Monday and wait for the certificate (do they send one for a rollover?) Oh dear. Decisiveness fading.
Could wait. There will be another bus along in a moment. Might be a 6 percent-er. On the other hand, the world might end tomorrow and then who would get my money?
Rambling on and haven't even had a drink yet today ....
I know. I'll have a drink or three, then I can stop caring! ;)

I closed my old regular saving account on Friday and opened a new one all on the phone with their advice.
Now I have a little problem. My old account is still showing on my online banking. I tried to add the new regular saving account online. It failed yesterday, then I sent an email to them. I got an email back and told me that I could add my new account now. I did it.
The problem is here. I was told yesterday when I opened my account that I was passed the electronic test on the system, so I didn't need to go to the branch to show my IDs. But the new regular saving account showing on my online banking is "awaiting details". When I clicked on it................

Thank you for opening a Regular Saver, before we can activate your new account we are required by law to confirm your identity. To do this simply call into any Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch with original documents from this list, and we'll be happy to help.
Alternatively you can provide us with original documents from this list by post, to the following address:

    Preston Business Centre
    PO Box 215
    PRESTON
    PR1 2BR

................it required me to bring my IDs to the branch for IDs check!! Sort of stupid system...I've got 3 reward accounts, linked websaver account and the old regular saver account with them.

It's probably just an error in the system, or there may be duplicate records for your name. Get them to call you using this link, they may be able to sort it out straight away.

Did exactly the same, and get the same message. I was informed that I'll get something in the post to sign, so I''ll presume that is what it is.
You can pay into the account in the mean time, but can't get money out.

Now I remember...she did mention that I would receive something to sign and post back.

But it is just not the same as before......?

I opened my first RS online, can't remember if I also had to sign something then (dont think so). Still happy I did it this way as the account was online the next day, and have paid into it straightaway.

When I had called up re the 5% a/c (see my previous post) I was categorically told that I will have to close the 4% one to open a new 5% a/c. Since we are allowed just one regular saver a/c, I can see the logic in that.

I did not get anything in post to let me know that I had started on the 4% a/c after my 10% a/c matured. All the info that I had was that which was available online. So will they send something in post for rollover (if at all they do a rollover) ? It is a long shot...the only thing is wait and see....
