Isn't it covered under warranty if fitted as per manufacturers instuctions and mileage?
I have no ideal but if it was new car and under warranty I would have thought so, I'd sure be stopping t the dealers to see about it!
I haven't this worry anymore, my last car had a cambelt, it had 120.000 miles on it and I was only keep it for a while so didn't get it done but I was always worried whne on the motorway of it snapping:eek:
Chain driven is the way forward0 -
sorry to hear about ur cam belt i wounder what the stats are for cam belt write offs or just cam belt failures.
yet still they design them this way
i wouldnt feel safer with a chain as they stretch and cost alot more to replace and they really do go bang when they snap!
If he treats it like a skip he doesn't deserve a new one
so get it repaired for less then £1k and look after it this time! 0 -
Don't give up on it yet. Does it have a full service history? If so, then the cam belt should have been replaced at regular intervals and so if this either wasn't done by the garage or a faulty one was fitted, then Vauxhall should pay up for the cost of repairs.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Probably should've had a couple of changes with that mileage. May not have been the belt that went, could've been the tensioner.Money_Grabber13579 wrote: »Don't give up on it yet. Highly unlikely that Vauxhall's would pay.Genie

I have a VW diesel as well and when I bought the car they recommended the cambelt was replaced every 5 years or 60K miles. This was subsequently reduced to 40K, which is nothing between big bills of £300+ to do the work. I still stick to the 60K to be honest!0

A quick look at autotrader suggests that your car in working order might sell for £1500 - £1800 from a trader.
So perhaps £1100 - £1400 as a trade in.
Knock off the repair costs (parts only), add in the hassle someone will have of fixing it themselves and that'll give you an idea of what it's worth now.
My guess. A few hundred, tops.0
