Looking to use O2 sim for International SMS only

I was browsing around and found that O2 offer an International PAYG Bolton where you only get charged 10p for international SMS (as opposed to 20p). You have to pay a £4.99 one off charge and that's it apparently.

I'm only going to be using this sim for SMS...therefore I doubt I'll be topping up that often (maybe £10 every 2-3 months if even that). Do you know whether 02 will allow this? They talk about the requirement of a minimum £10 deposited into the account every month if you wish to receive free minutes - but I'm not interested in that as I'll be using my T-Mobile account for domestic calls/sms anyway ;)

If I don't top up every month, will I lose my number and the International PAYG Bolt-on?

No you don't have to topup every month, you just won't get your free calls/UK texts when you don't topup. In theory you need to topup every 3 months to keep the SIM active but O2 don't seem to bother to cut you off:)

All you have to do is top up by £10 to get going, if you dont top up every month all that happens is you lose your free monthly allowance, but as soon as you top up by £10 again its reinstated.

So in your case you would top up by £10, register the phone get another £2.50p credit ,making a total of £12.50 credit. Apply the bolt on of £4.99p leaving with you with £7.50p or 75 intl texts. When you have used these up you just top up by £10 again.O2 want mind as long as you use the phone every 180 days.

When you set it up you might want to choose the 100 free minute option because you can use these free minutes to make intl calls via 0844/07744 numbers. So not only will you have cheap intl texting , every time you top up by £10 providing a month has elapsed, your get 100 minutes of free intl calls as well.

Yea thanks for the call :)...I was actually researching on this....This will be particularly useful as I'm getting unlimited GPRS with T-Mobile. The only prob...I'm using a PocketPC phone (MDA Compact....soon to be MDA Vario). Any idea as to whether there are any programs available that'll be compatible?
