Hi,
Me & My Husband were due to go to Lisbon August Bank Holiday - but now I've been told that I really need to be at work that weekend (even though this has been booked since March!!).
The outbound flight was with BA so I've managed to cancel that & get the tax back (something at least!), the inbound flight is with easyjet & the hotel I booked was Sofitel & these are the 2 I cannot get a refund on.....
Any ideas on how I can get some money back as I'm going to lose around £600.... all of this was paid on credit card.
I have travel insurance but they don't cover cancellations like this which I thought they wouldn't.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

I'd tell work that in order for me to work that weekend, they had to compensate me for the loss of cash, if you were unable to get a refund. (And i'd get it in writing too).
But thats me, i value my freetime way too highly for work to demand i give up a holiday.PPI Reclaimed £15,500 - between 2008 & 2014Mortgage Free - 15th July 2009Debt Free - 14th Jan 2011It's possible.0 -
If it has been booked in diary at work since march, and not just that you have had the holiday booked since March(big difference)then I would ask for compensation from them, or tell them you cannot afford to lose the money.
Of course, if you were sick, with a medical note and could not travel you would get a refund.0 -

But she's not, she hasn't, she can and she won't.
You can change your easyJet flights to another date (and another destination) on payment of a change fee. If you have any future plans where you could fly easyJet, then I would do this.
How much were the flights? If they were a lot, you could even 'park' them by booking for a random destination, then change the flights again. Of course you would have to pay two change fees for this.0 -

.
But if she was, then she could claim, I was just pointing out that fact, not suggesting that was the case. However, who knows who will be the next to contract swine flu, and the airlines certainly wont allow you to travel in that event.0 -

Did you actually have it booked off at work or had you just booked the trip and not informed them?0

It had been booked off with work - but there is a huge project which has now been moved forward that I now need to be there for..... unfortunate, but also with current economic climate its not like you can say no to work!!Shadia0

I would be telling work they had to compensate you or something to make it worth your while
I wouldnt be cancel my holiday if they hoiday was agreed from work, its not like they can sack you!I am a Travel Agent
My company’s ABTA numbers are P6046. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.0 -
I agree - I'd either go on holiday anyway or ask work to refund the cost and take the holiday at another time.
It's totally unfair for your employer to tell you that you could definitely have the time off (which they have implicitly done by allowing the time off to be booked) and then change their mind at the last minute.
Imagine if the tables were turned - you had an important project that was going to make the company a fortune, had promised to be there... then a few days beforehand you say, "Actually, I think I'll have a few weeks off." Your employer would be livid!0
