Gonna use my Boots points to get a Nokia 6230 (yes I have spent a fortune in Boots to amass so many points ;D). I can get it with O2 or Vodafone prepay only. I'm with Virgin mobile though. Does anyone know which of O2 or Vodafone is easier/cheaper to unlock or even if I need to unlock the handset at all? I had an old Nokia before that was on T-Mobile that didn't need unlocking for Virgin sim but I've never tried an O2/Vodafone handset before.
Thanks

Hi there,
I am not an expert on this but as far as I know 02 and vodaphone use the same system and you cannot use it on the other networks. I would wait for another reply before you act.

You will probably need to unlock it but Nokias are quite easy to do yourself.

gioven the choice given the ease of unlock the O2 6230 will probably have less menus tampered with than a Vodafone 62300

Doubt it very much, unless of course someone is selling one second hand in the paper and you can pop round to their house to collect?0

Thanks for your advice everyone and for your offer Browntoa. In the end I got O2 in case I couldn't unlock it and had to stick with them since their text/call charges seem to be cheaper than Vodafone.
BarGin, I used that site to unlock it to Virgin and have had no probs so far ;D. Thank you. For anyone else wanting to try unlocking a phone: it took less than 5 minutes and it really is simple, (I'm a bit of a div when it comes to mobiles: haven't even tried a quarter of its features yet but plenty of time to play with it
).
