Hi, I am looking for an all in one printer/scanner device for a relative who hasnt got much idea about computers.
Can anyone recommend one that is a) easy to use, b) cheap to run (cartridges available that dont cost the earth and compatible ones preferable than originals), c) cheap to buy, preferably under £30
.
It doesnt have to be used for anything other than very occcasional use and not for photos at all.
Thanks.

Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.

Personally I'd recommend an HP as they're usually a good all rounder. Canon is a good printer too but not as much choice with regards to the all in ones.
Think your price range might be a little low though. If it was £50, not a problem! Here's the one I would recommend. I'm not put off by the few poor reviews either. (They're usually posted by people who don't have a clue what a printer does!)

Colour : Epson SX100, but you'll need to stretch an extra tenner.
Black only : Laser printer. ink will last a whole lot longer!0 -
Brother All in One, , does all that you need and unlike most other printer/scanners they have a plentiful range of cheap compatible cartridges available.
Avoid Lexmark and HP, very expensive cartridges.0 -

The one I mentioned above actually has very reasonable cartridges. £20 for 1000 pages new isn't bad!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

I can get 10 new cartridges delivered for my Brother for less than £20.
HP and Lexmark make their money from selling their over priced cartridges.0 -
But how long do they last? And I'm sure the ink isn't of photo quality either!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

The quality of prints from Canon and HP printers (and some Epsons) is far superior to that of Brother, Lexmark, Kodak and the other "cheaper" brands which general have poor print quality.
Rather than listen to people saying which they own, read some comparative reviews, where they are tested against one another, such as: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/168/inkjets-all-in-ones/products.html0 -
Check out this months PC mags, there's usually one running a story on 'Top 10 printers' this month.0

I have had 3 Canon Printer Scanners, none are as good or reliable as my Brother Printer/Scanners.
I don't trust any biased reviews that rely on advertising products to give an impartial reflection of the facts.0
