I wonder if the comparison sites are to blame in a way , how many posts did there used to be saying so so supplier has cut my fuel bills by ex amount per month ? Instead of comparing tariffs they just tell you what your new monthly payment will be , after most people just guess what their annual consumption isVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

I live in a 2 bed apartment (electric only) and have seen my DD go up from £118 per month to £179. I haven't a clue how I'm racking this up. I work FT all my electrical appliances/lights are switched off during the day. I do put my washer/dishwasher on approx twice a week each but no more than I have done over the last 18mths.Proud to be dealing with my debts :money:0

That's extremely high. For a normal 2-bedroom apartment I would expect no more than £70-80 a month for 'medium' energy usage, so even the initial £118 was high.
Can you advise
- what your usage is in terms of kWh (this will be written on your electricity bill)
- what tariff you're on and with which supplier?
- whether you have failed to make any payments in the past and so if you're paying any debts off?
- how long you have been in the property and your bill history.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

On my bill it says I am using 57.3kWh pr day
I don't know how or why??!!
I am on Eon's standard tariff. I have been in the property 18 months and it was about £70 per month up until the beginning of this year. I am doing nothing different (as far as I am aware). I have had no heating on at all since about March. The only thing I can think of is my water heater but that is not on constantly.Proud to be dealing with my debts :money:0 -

That would be staggeringly high. For what you're describing, i.e. a normal flat with normal usage, then I'd expect something more in the region of 25-30kWh/day even if you're electric only. That would have you paying around £75-90 a month.
For your usage, you're paying a reasonable cost - we can get it cheaper but that's not as important as working out why it's so high.
What period was your last bill for? I can't believe you're using 57kWh a day in the summer.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

That was from Apr/May to now.Proud to be dealing with my debts :money:0

Without heating it is impossible to use 57.3kWh a day - your Hot Water being on 24/7 would not use more that a couple of kWh a day more than being on timed. You would be hard pushed to use 20kWh a day in summer.
If your previous bills were based on under-estimated readings and the latest bill is a 'catch up' bill the 57.3kWh is meaningless.
What is important is your annual consumption in kWh.0 -

So to be clear, your bill says you've used around 4600 kWh since the end of April? That's mad. That's roughly the average usage for the UK per year.
I'd expect you to use much more in the winter if you have electric heating but in the summer you're going to use the same as everyone else.
You say you're in a flat - is there any chance someone else is taking your power? You can check by turning literally everything off and going out for a few hours, then seeing if your meter reading has changed.
*Edit* Cardew's right, if your previous bill is estimated and this is a catch-up then it's meaningless. Although I'm surprised that an estimate was quite so far out - it wouldn't normally doubleSays James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

It says on my bill that I have used:
Normal Primary Units Used - 217 kWh at 19.46p each = 42.23
Secondary Units Used - 4823kWh at 10.58p each = 510.27
All the meters are in a communal cupboard and mine is over double the readings of everyone elses!!?? I'm sooo confused
Thanks for your help guys anyway.Proud to be dealing with my debts :money:0 -
Please talk to us and see if we can come to an agreement.
Why bother, you didnt want to come to an agreement when I had the same problem!
All I got was a letter through the post saying "sorry you felt you had to complain, here is a copy of our code of practice"
I would have been better off staying with nPower0
