porting number from 3 to vodafone problem

my phone number seems to have disappeared into thin air!

I used my PAC to port my number (one that I've had for 7 years) over to Vodafone from Three last Saturday afternoon and was told it takes 48 working hours and the number would be available to use on the Vodafone network by Wednesday 4.30pm.
"Wednesday" I questioned her, "not Tuesday?"
"Yes, that is correct!, definitely Wednesday" the Vodafone customer services agent said. Now I guess I should have detected something fishy cos guess what, the number is now dead on my Three phone and my current temporary Vodafone number is still active on my Vodafone phone. I've tried calling Vodafone and they said theres no one available in the PAC department until office hours on Thursday, a bit of a c0ck up all round by the sounds of things. Has anyone else had similar problems when porting their number from Three to Vodafone? Is there anything I can say to help speed up what could be a common problem and may take ages to sort out as I'm currently 'not contactable' which is not good as far as work goes :(:cool:

thanks in advance
colin

There are problems sometimes, its hard to say whose at fault until you can talk to the port dept at Voda. 3 may have not released the number properly or Voda might have not enabled it properly at their end. . .

thanks for the reply Jon 01

    so an update

having spent most of the day on the phone, either in a queue or on hold the last person i spoke to at Vodafone was as helpful as he could be with the very little information he had been given by his superiors which i am grateful for.

Seems their systems are currently down and can't access any Pay As You Go accounts. I asked why they were doing such intensive system technical work during the daytime and his response was that they had started it at 9pm last night (Wednesday) and had hoped it be completed by 12 noon today, but now the work will not be completed until the earliest of 4pm on Friday. If there had been any problems porting numbers in during this time then they will be held up, but as mine and possibly other numbers were due to have been ported before then who knows whats happened to my number until they can access the account... pretty shoddy for a major telephone company to be in this position really

I really hope this gets resolved tomorrow afternoon, because if this goes into the weekend / early next week then I will not be staying with Vodafone

the systems seem to be back up and running and my number is now active on vodafone after i spoke to a customer service member that sorted this out for me in no time at all :)

not the best start with a new network but i'll give them the benefit of any doubt for the time being

I too am having problems with porting and vodafone. Ported out FROM vodafone 3 days ago now and it's only partially ported. My number works, I can send texts but cannot receive texts.

Vodafone say it should work in a few hours, every time I try.

If your porting from Voda you need to talk to your new network. Once Voda release the number its down to the other network to pick it up and get it working, Voda have no control over it once they've let it go. . .

spoke too soon, within 15 mins of the number becoming active manually by a Vodafone customer services agent the sim became INACTIVE and I've just spent the best part of the last 2 hours being transfered from one Vodafone department to another as both my previous number & temporary vodafone number didn't exist anywhere on their system... after several cups of coffee, some hair tearing and various unrepeatable words it was discovered that it'd be cancelled & disconnected manually by the same person that had activated the SIM earlier! An absolute joke of a company, as soon as this has setteld down I'm porting out to another network, good luck to anyone that stays with Vodafone, cos you're gonna need it with people like that working there
