Xbox 360 - Sales of Goods Act Question

How long would you expect an xbox 360 to last mine has died after 18 months i alreday had it repaired for 3 lights within the year but now have been informed this is a different problem i.e. 2 lights and need to pay if i want it repaired. Is there any point am i a fool to have expected it to last any longer. i would never have bought it if i thought it would break down so soon.
microsoft recently repaired mine and it only had two red lights. i presume you bought yours brand new and registered it on their website? that might not matter anyway. with mine i called them and explained the problem. they said it needs to be repaired. they suggested sorting it out online as it would be quicker. i got it back 8 days after it was collected in working order and it had even been cleaned.
if you do try online there is a box to explain the fault, tell the truth and say it is two red lights but that after allowing the console 24 hours or more to cool it still wont work. after that there is a question about whether it is a 3 red light problem. just select three red light problem even though it is only two. you have to do that otherwise you will get asked for credit card details.
so basically i think they are reasonable and providing the two red light issue is permanent they will repair it for free.0 -
there is certainly a lesson to be learned from this thread. dont buy second hand 360's when you know that even if you buy a brand new one you are at a high risk of the red light problem at some point.0

Did you ever find factual ratios out on that Donna? Im kinda intrigued
(Say 1 in every 50 consoles or whatever):idea:0 -

There are some interesting figures to be found here.
Depending on who you believe, the failure rate is between 3 - 5%, or upwards of 16.4% (1 in 6).
My Xbox 360 is about 6 months old and still going strong, so fingers crossed.0 -
Do you think this will help me. I bougtht an x-box 360 in dec 07 from argos and it broke with 3 lights just under a year, Argos sent it through microsoft for us (we were given 3 year warranty)and it worked for a few months but the 2 lights became more and more frequent despite ventilation etc. Not being used for few months as red lights come on within few minues. Microsoft informed me that new fault is overheating and not covered by the warranty which is for the motherboard. Is it reasonable to have expected this x-box to have lasted longer, who should i complain too. Angie
imo yes the console should last maybe 2 years or maybe more but since ms made a bit of a mistake with the design the console has the chance to fail, surely the fact that the console has an overheating problem then its down to them to get it fixed is it not, someone please correct me if im wrong0 -

no i dont have proper figures. its just reasonably fair to assume that alot of people have suffered the problem. mine went kerput after 18 months and it is one of the supposedly safer models. so if you buy second hand you are taking a really big risk. you could be buying a console that has suffered the ring of death 2 or 3 times already.0 -

alienrik were you agreeing with what i said0 -
alienrik were you agreeing with what i said
Absolutely
But going up against microsoft does take some balls
Youd have to have a very good case and FACTS before attempting to do so
It seems 'hard facts' are very hard to come by regarding xbox 360s
Clearly there is a MAJOR problem, but proving that might be something else:idea:0 -
Microsoft gives you a 3 year warranty on RROD. Go to thier website and check your serial. If it does not have RROD just tick the box that says it does. They will collect and repair and return for free. (speaking from experience)0
