Then rolled her eye said some people and walked off!
I didn't wait 2 hours, after being spoken to so rudely i walked out.
You would have been better making an appointment. You can ring to cancel up to the day before you know....
If you feel justified, then complain to the National Blood Service.
Maybe she was just having a bad day  .:wave:0 -

I know you can but i don't like hogging an appointment if i don't know for sure i can make it.
I wouldn't mind - but it wasn't even busy!
We all have bad days, but we don't take it out on people who are trying to help, they are short of blood donors as it is without being put of donating in future by rude staff.
My aunty works for them , so i will talk to her about it when she is better.Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.0 -

I wouldn't worry about hogging an appointment. If one person cancels a day or so before donation day the "slot" can be given to someone like yourself who turns up onn the offchance of being fitted in immediately.
Even with an appointment there can still be some delay (that's my experience anyway).
I have my next 2 appointments set up already (via blood donor online), if for any reason I can't go I can either ring and cancel or do so online.
Sadly there seems to be a distinct lack of manners these days (oh God! I sound like my [late] Mother). That is the view of a person in early middle-age :rotfl: .
Some older people are worse than youngsters - maybe they don't think they have to bother any more!!!!!:wave:0 -
giving blood scares me for 2 reasons - 1. the needle. 2.the fact that u dont know what u r doing to ure body.i heard that because u force ure red bone marrow to produce more blood, u may speed up the chances of getting diseases as the marrow ages prematurely. i have an organ donor card and would like to give blood but this thought has prevented me.
No everyone is comfortable in giving blood. By carrying a donor card you are prepared to help in another way.
If you wanted to try and give blood. Go to a donor session. The nurses are great with first timers and walk you slowly through the process and explain everything.
You do have to go at least twice before you have any rights to the chocolate biscuits.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Its not hogging an appointment. The appointments are there to give the staff an idea of how many are likely to be attending at what time, in addition to the ones who just turn up.

i have just had a phonecall from the national blood service offering me an appointment - they seem to be following up lapsed doners. with the summer holidays coming up the number of doners at sessions drops due to people being away. currently i cant give myself as i am awaiting surgery - but please all those of you out their who can try to get to a session over the summer to keep the blood stocks at decent levels.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. I had my gall bladder removed at the end of April, so now I'm banned from giving platelets for the next 6 months. That's a bit of bummer as I was on 48 donations so my next platelet donation would have take me to 50. Of course, I understand that reasons why I'm banned but November seems a long way off0

Does anyone know whether the national blood service have changed the rules on giving blood for people that used to live in a country with malaria when they were 2-5 years of age.
Previously I've tried to give blood but they've indicated that they don't have a robust enough test to indicate whether the blood is safe.
I'm now 34 and have never had malaria or suffered from anything that could be attributed to malaria.0
