Do Something Amazing- Give Blood

Did anyone see the story about the woman in Shropshire who died after giving birth to twins because she refused a blood tranfusion? All because of her religion (Jehovah's Witness).
How selfish and disrespectful? Selfish because there's two kids who'll grow up without knowing their mother and disrespectful to all those of us who generously give part of ourselves.
It made me soooo angry and sad reading about this woman.*removed by forumteam - please do not advertise in signatures*0 -

The donor units will soon be getting ready for their 'drought' period when donors become too busy to drop in and donate. It is ironic because mid-winter tends to be when there is more blood required by hospitals to treat patients resulting from accidents, slips and falls partly caused by the shorter daylight hours and weather conditions and also by some people going that little bit too far with their celebrating.
Please spare an hour out of your busy lives and make time to donate some of the red stuff.0 -

It is great that you do go 3 times a year.
My veins are well suited to being a platelet donor and I have a high count so I make the extra effort and go as often as I can, I gave a triple dose this week.
I feel that if everyone that can donate went even once a year then there would never be a shortage, I am always trying to encourage people that have never been to go along and see what is involved, the staff at the sessions will always make time for potential new starts, from explaining the testing process and what is involved during the 'draw' and beyond to what happens to the blood after you have donated it.0 -

You dont have to wait for you appointment to be sent to you, as long as it has been at least 12 weeks since you last donated, you can go along to the donor centre in Aberdeen at Foresterhill Road during the following times:-
Tues and Wed: 4.00pm-7.30
Wed 8.40am - 3.30pm: Appointment only. Please phone 01224 685685 to make an appointment
It is probably better if you phone and check the best time for you to go in.
For other locations and dates in Scotland check the ScotBlood website at http://www.scotblood.co.uk/index.html

I ocassionally have to take Ibrupuofen and you can't donate platelets if you do. Doesn't affect your blood donations though.
In less than five years time I get my next badge. :T£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I agree with you wholeheartedly! Especially since, as far as I understand it, JW's are against transfusion because, potentially, disease might be transferred!!
Heavens! how much is our blood tested before it is transfused?!!
For the sake of the recipient we all have to answer endless questions (every time) about ourselves before we can give blood, thereby making it pretty unlikely these days (IMHO)
Ok, so the late Anita (?) Roddick got hep C from a blood transfusion in the '70's, for her family & friends' sake, I'm sorry about that, but if you've had a transfusion in the last 27 years you can't give blood anyway!!!!
I shall continue to give as long as I can and will gratefully receive if it becomes necessary......:wave:0
