Doesn't hurt does it?
not at all- i was really surprised!! its much less painful than having a drip in, whereas i thought it would be much worse!I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Gave blood today - usual selection of biscuits was supplemented by Wagon Wheels and Penguins. Felt like I was back at the school tuck shop.
Still waiting for the sugar free and gluten free options :cool:0 -

The ironic thing is that I'm probably lower risk than some of the heterosexual people that donate who have slept around. I'm female, and I know the ban applies to gay men, but solidarity and all of that. The ban is based on uninformed generalizations, and I will refuse to have no part in it.
Take a look at http://www.blood.co.uk/pages/flash_questions.html
It states; 'Before we accept blood we need to ensure there's no risk of us harming you or the patients who receive your blood' and then invites you to find out more by 'clicking here'.
I see no mention of sexual orientation.
48 donations. A+. God willing I'll make 50 by my 70th birthay. To do is to be (Jean Jaques Rousseau)

Well, question 12 is "Are you a man who has ever had oral or anal sex with another man (even if you have used a condom)?". So it's not sexual orientation as such, but actual sexual activity they're asking about.
But please recognise that they'd love to take blood from anyone willing, so their decision (at present) not to accept donations from people in the above category is because they believe, on the basis of their serious information, that it poses a risk to potential recipients of the blood. The NBS aren't being prejudiced, just protecting ill people.
Go on, all of you, DO SOMETHING AMAZING TODAY (unless you've done so recently already or are in the umpteen categories who can't).

Hi
I've donated blood twice, the first time I hardly felt a thing but the second time it was very painful, I couldn't wait for it to be over, had tears in my eyes and everything! I'm due to go next week, going to request anaesthetic I think!
Im blood group o negative by the way.

I just wanted to echo what has been mentioned. I have been giving blood since I was 18. My dad had a second heart attack months before my eighteenth birthday and then needed a heart transplant.
Two months later he had a sucessful transplant :j
My mum said "we" needed to put back what he had used up ! ( I had to hold her hand!)
I have given quite regulary but missed the odd year through Tattoo's and piercings. This last year I discovered the Permament donation centre in Luton, Beds. I have a high platelet count( rest of me is falling apart though ) and have been donating every month for nearly a year.
In true MSE style they give you free coffee / sandwich , crisps, biccies and pay the car parking fee.... so it costs nothing but your time and the petrol.
The staff are lovely and you can walk in to give blood without an appointment.
I look at donating as I am putting in to a bank something I may need in the future or someone I love may need. It costs nothing and you will save lives.
I can see peoples upset at not being able to donate but I will continue to donate ( triple doses of platelets) so I can help two people a month live/ have a better quality of life.
My dad is still alive today ( 12 years on) Thanks to an organ donor and all you lovely people donating blood.
Go on Do something Amazing :A0 -

ewwwwwwwwww no its a shame us women waste so much lol
ive never ever ever givin blood !!!
but after reading this i will look into it !!0
