You can ask, and pretend you are naive, but it is not the usual to let the seller see it. However if the buyer trys to knock you down as a result of the survey get back on this thread for further advice.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. Thank you chickmug.
After extensive talks with the buyer I have already reduced the price by £15k, to allow for update of electrics, kitchen and some other cosmetic issues.
If they do try to knock it down further I will, after picking myself up off the floor from laughing so much, get back on here for much sought after advice !
In the end im not in a chain. Not selling to buy another house to move to, so im in no rush !
When i spoke to this ftb I guaranteed him I would not listen to any other offers on the property from other buyers, as my word is my bond. No gazumping from me so no silly moves from him !0 -
you did not pay for the survey you have no right to look at it0

I paid for the HIP report and the buyer has the right to look at that.
Slightly different i know !
Cant really understand why the secrecy ?0 -

It's a bargaining tool to some people - sure as chickmug says if they start to renegotiate you need to know why. I guess they may also not tell you just in case the sale does fall through and another buyer is in the pipeline - information to others can be very handy. As much as you've given your word (which is very good of you I must say) it's unlikely that they will fully trust that.. Don't get me wrong I'm not being rude at all - in actual fact I have pretty much given my words in the property I am trying to buy - as has the vendor - all I'm saying is you can't rely on it.
A previous survey was carried out on the property I am trying to buy. I've tried to get a copy, though naturally the previous purchaser is not willing (which I fully appreciate) to let me see it. I was thinking however of offering say half the cost of the survey to buy it off him/her. As it stands it's worth nothing to him at the moment and he could recoup some of his costs back a wee bit.
Good luck with the sale - if you hear nothing back then it's all good I'd imagine."The future needs a big kiss"0 -
Any idea on what info the standard survey will hold.
Ive been told that sometimes the surveyor has not even entered the property !0 -

I can see where you're coming from- but remember that you will be paying simply for the (often quite limited) information the survey contains, and gaining none of the legal protection a surveyor owes to the original purchaser of a survey which they are later reliant on.
Undoubtedly, the property will 'need investigation' for this, that and the other...0 -

I assume you mean the baisc valuation and true sometimes the guy does not even have to look inside.
