MSE news: The £95 parking ticket for taking too long to spend

Before we start boycotting retailers, I would respectfully refer readers back to my post #29
Who are the Car Park Police working for? Does the retailer have any say - or is it down to the freeholder?
I'd like to know, before I take any "action"Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

I see that the boycott would be of the location due to the prevalence of Private ticketing. Not a boycott of retailers. When the private ticketing is removed any and all associated retailers or trade outlets will benefit until then this aspect of the location will have consequences..0

3) Host a MSE protest/party at the store by MSE's occupying all parking spaces at a particular time and spending less that £1 and staying for full 60 / 90 mins.
I would suggest that we also all fill trollies with goods, all arrive at the till at the same time, causing a massive queue, then leave our trollies, telling the staff we're running out of time in their car park. It will take ages for them to put all the goods back on the shevles. Some items such as fresh food may even have to be thrown away.
Hit them in the pocket where it hurts! :rotfl:Happy New Year :beer:0 -
i use sainsburys in canterbury which is a lousy city to get parked in anyday of the week.
if i know im going to need longer than the alloted 2hrs,i leave my details with customer services/parking attendant.and they always give permission.lots of contractors do the same.0 -
I should point out that I work at B&Q and we have this parking measure in our store. It is there to ensure that customers and staff have parking spaces available to them as we have a lot of problems with people who park there but don't shop.
We will cancel fees that have been received by customers who have proof that they were in the store over the allowed time, such as a receipt, order or quote.
WE DO NOT PROFIT FROM THIS. The companies who manage the car park make all the money. I cannot speak for Homebase or Sainsburys but I know that in our store (and most probably other stores in the company) do not profit from this in any way.
Just thought I would point some of that out for those of you not in the know.0 -

Smellslikemarmite,
We realise it's not the stores making the profits, but the question is who has the contract with the car park managers? Is it B&Q or is it the landlord of the store?Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

And, of course, nobody should profit from these charges. If they do then they are breaking the law by demanding a sum of money which bears no relation to the actual loss suffered.. This is the same argument being used against the banks and their excesses overdraft charges.Smellslikemarmite,

As opposed to doing nothing anyway when they don't pay up?

I'm not sure. The most common deal that I've heard of being offered is that the shop/company is contacted by the parking company, who offer to install the cameras that capture you entering and leaving the car park for free, and they gain all the money for it.
All it gives us is more spaces for customers.0
