Anglian Water in credit

Hi, quick question on behalf of my mother. she has not received a water bill for 10 months, so rang them yesterday. She has found out she is £160 + in credit. The lady on phone said it was to put towards next bill, but can she request the amount back via a cheque?

She should ask for an up to date statement of account and repayment of the £160. She should check the statement and her meter [if she is metered] to be sure that the account is correct.

Thanks. Ive told her to check the statement against her meter readings to check all correct. Mum lives with my older sister and the both work full time so no one at home all day and yet she is paying £57 a month for water (on a meter)
No wonder she is in so much credit, if all correct

What statement? You said she hadn't had a bill for 10 months.

The £160 credit is only a true reflection of the state of the account when all charges are debited - which is when the bill is produced.

Don't forget the monthly payments are credited to your account as soon as they are cleared, but you are only debited when your meter is read(or estimated) and charges raised - which is normally twice a year.

e.g. I could phone and be told my account is £200 in credit as my monthly payments have been credited to my account - but tomorrow a £250 charge for 6 months water could be debited to my account and I will be £50 in debit.

Cardew is correct, you could claim it back then get a bill which you would have to pay

If you ring them up with a meter reading they can produce a bill straight away for you
