Credit Limit Too Low on New Card
Comments

In response to people's queries, it has taken quite a while for my limit to be decided. About a month and a half ago I applied, but when my application details were sent there was an error so I had to send it back corrected and then receive another set.
As for cancelling cards, yes I do that as well, not just for my credit rating but also in case someone breaks in and nicks them!0 -

as I only use these cards for the o% bt as soon as I get the card I cut it up & put it in a coin bag ready to send off with my request to close letter when I've bt'd from that 6 or 9 months later0 -
I'm being messed around with my credit record due to something that has nothing to do with me.
I left my old address three years ago. I have had no connection whatsoever with it since. Late last year there was a case of identity theft at my old address. NTL have associated an identity theft CIFAS warning with my old address and this is showing up on my Equifax credit record. Equifax are adamant that no one will pay any attention to it as I am no longer at the address and that apart from identity theft my credit record is 'excellent'. However O2 after a little prompting told me that the reason I had problems applying for a contract phone with them was this case of identity theft. Equifax say they cannot and will not do anything about it and that I have to contact NTL to get the matter resolved.
Is it true that Equifax can do nothing?
Do I have no rights about being associated with an old address and something that happened two and a half years after I left the address? I have been on the electoral register on my new address for some time.
Does anyone have any advice?
I am planning on moving house in the near future and don't want any complications.
Thanks for any help.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

Quite meagre, but its in the middle of what I'm after so no complaints here. I'm a bit suprised that when I last applied, I was earning less and had twice as much available credit, yet they gave me a credit limit of £100 more.
Boss, what card and APR did you get??0 -

The Platinum 0% for 10 months card.0 -
SO they give you a Platinum card with £1600 limit???????0

Yep. Like I said before, when I applied for a Barclay card 18 months ago, I was earning less and had more available credit, yet they gave me their standard card with a £100 higher limit. Bit confusing.
Anyone know how best to appeal?0 -

Send in statements of savings? And another credit card statement showing you have a higher limit else wherE?0 -
Ahem. Maybe I will try getting confirmation letters from my closed accounts and plead the fifth if they ask for bank accounts statements.0

I just wanted to follow up on this thread...
I did as you suggested Boss and went for the Barclaycard Platinum (applied online). Not only did I get approved with more than enough credit (£4100, I only needed £1600), but rather than the Post Office credit card's application process of two months, including having to send bank statements out, it took about five days and my card is now active.
Thanks again for the advice.0
