Hey id like some advice on touchscreen phones

being a woman i have longish nails! therefore some phones that need 'finger touch' arn't suitable.
i narrowed my search to a samsung pixon and samsung tocco ultra, and went to the phoneshop to try them out, where i found out the tocco ultra needs a finger touch whereas the pixon you can use your nail.
the salesman said this is because they have different types of screen, he said the pixon has one beginning with S...syberian? im not sure!
does anyone know the name of the 'screen' that you can use a nail with ( im guessing its the same as the one that phones come with the sticks at the side ) and what phones use this type?
or if any of you have a touchscreen and you can tell me if you've got to use your actual finger or if the corner of the nail works
thank you!
xx

Symbian is the name of the operating system and nothing to do with the screen (maybe you got the trainee !).
Of the 2 type of screen there's Resistive and Capacitive. Capacitive is meant to be better.
Some of them are quite sensitive, if you're using a nail just don't push too hard !!
  • as jon 01 said there is 2 different types of screen. The one you want is the resistive type like used on the nokia 5800,lg renoir, tocco lite and many many others.Capacitive type is used on the iphone and few others.

    thanks for the advice.
ive now been able to look this up, although am finding it difficult to find a list of phones that have resistive touch screens. on most phone review websites it doesnt mention what type of screen it has. unless anyone knows a good site?
im a bit confussed that its used in most phones and when i went into an orange shop and asked him what touchscreen works well with nails, he said the samsung pixon, i asked him what else...and he said thats about it!
on my first email , my brother informed me he said stylus as in the pen opps!
least im getting somewhere...im so glad i started looking for a phone in June when my contract runs out in August, this is hard work lol

Most touchscreen phones will come with a stylus. Windows mobile is supposed to operate with one. On phones like the HTC's (touch diamond, touch HD, etc) they've added a something called flow 3d which is suppoed to help you use it with a fingure (nail ?) rather than the styus. But if you add more programmes they still need a very fine point, hence the styus...
The same is true of Samsungs, they've put there own overlay on WM to help with using fingures rather than anything else.

The only phone I've seen which you can use completely without anything else is the iphone. The interface is very figure friendly, but it's a Apple !! and only on O2 and very expensive.

I think you need to go to a shop and try a few and see what works for you...

I would recommend the Nokia 5800. I have have reasonably long nails but can use my finger tips to operate the touch dial pad and icons on the menu, etc. However when it come to texting I use my nails on the qwerty keyboard with no problems. It also comes with a built in stylus. If in doubt give it a try in a shop.

I had an LG Cookie and could type using my nails on it (and it comes with a stylus). Took me a few days to work out why I was fnding it hard to type on my new iPhone...it needs whole different touch technique to the LG.
