You are having a laugh aren't you? How can the OP be expected to bring in other peoples bank statement s as proof.

I would bring in the marriage cert and go and see the bank manager in your local branch, get the local papers involved f necessary and congrats

    Lol the local papers? Idiot.

The reason for the block is it is unusual activity an my account, which says to me if I were rich and moving large sums in and out all the time (like a highly paid retired cheif exec of a government funded bank might do for example!) This wouldn't be a problem.

I can appreciate why they put the block on, but would have thought the jobsworth investigating it might have used common sense re:wedding cert having been shown

When it comes down to it, common sense does not prevail - "the computer say no" scenario. So need to find a way to get hold of your own money. It is a ridiculous suggestion to get other peoples bank statements as proof. I would not want to give my bank statement to anybody!

If you have another account with another bank why don't you ask your dad to transfer the 4K online to that a/c? Also, you can ask your friends (at least the close ones who would more understanding to do the same). If they are using faster payment then you should get the money immediately. Use as many diff banks as possible so you do not have the same problem again. At a later stage when you manage to get your a/c sorted you can return the cheque amounts.

Not even branch common sense - the branch could of fax'd the dad letter to the daugther's branch or even both branches could of fax'd the evidence to the Head Office to sort this matter.

I did hear of a story years ago similar situation bride's account temp. hold, Bride's father and father in law were so annoyed. They rounded up people that were at the wedding to one branch of the bank as proof wedding took place and who gave what money and then one by one asked to close their account if this matter was not sorted out there and then.

I think you'll find the money is in the account already and they cannot get access to it, which is the problem which lies.

Can your dad fax you a letter from work? im not to sure if they would take it though (some places do, some places dont)

if there a little funny about it, ask if he can fax over some certified id (make sure in the complaint you want the charge back if he gets charged)

Congratulations btw :o) dont let em ruin your honeymoon!.

I know what I would do after you get access to your money. Close the account and go somewhere else and make sure they know why. Then again they probably wouldn't care.

Random people yes, but close friends and family? For the sake of them getting there money I am pretty sure people would let them have a page or 2 lol....

My family are the last people who I'd want to see my bank statements! I'd rather show them to complete strangers.

Why are Halifax asking for statements? Are they keeping them? What are they doing with them?
    What would William Shatner do?

When I first read the post I assumed Halifax would want to see statements of where the money is coming to show you actually know this person so the money is legit rather than being fraudalent.
