Help - Plusnet contract change!

I signed up to Plusnet about 4 months ago, the "Broadband Plus"
product.
Back then, under "product specification / product benefits" it stated 'uncapped usage' or something to this effect.

It was surprisingly cheap, uncapped 2mb broadband for £14.99 a month, so I called and asked repeatedly whether or not it was capped.
Each time the answer was no, and they even said something about heavy users (like gamers) getting priority at peaktimes on their service.

But now, they've changed it to 3GB cap at peaktimes, (4pm to midnight).
It feels like they've duped me, I signed up to a no caps product, and now they've slipped this in!
I don't think they even informed me about the change, it was only when I decided to look at their website again a few days ago that I realised there was now a cap. I'm fuming about this, I've spoken to them about it but all they've said is that the product was "never suitable for bandwidth heavy applications and never advertised as uncapped."

I think my contract is for a year, but I'll have to pay around £50 if I want to leave, even after a year. The amount goes down by something tiny like £10 every 2 years?

Is there anything I can do? =/
Please help!

I am also with plusnet and are not happy with their change of term. Someone posted on adslguide that they were able to cancel the contract and also dont have to pay the deferred activation charge. They have changed the terms so you can choose to cancel as this was not what u signed up for.

I will put a link to that post shortly.

I'm with Plusnet too..but on Broadband Premier at £21.99 pm for 2mb uncapped - I think you have been misled that the 14.99 service was uncapped as it was made clear to me last June when I joined that only the Broadband Premier service was uncapped.

Anyway, if the terms and conditions have definitely changed then you do have the right to cancel your contract..but I suspect that what you may have been told verbally will differ from the written T's & C's!

Incidentally just had an email from Plusnet in the last half hour....the 0845 locall support number is now changing to 50p per minute! Brilliant!

As it looks like the broadband battle is hotting up now I'm definitely looking to change come June!

I'm on the Broadband Plus (or whatever its now called) - the £14.99 per month one. Mines a monthly contract with no cancellation fee, as far as I'm aware (I didn't get any "free" equipment from them when I joined). I'm fairly certain that they started off just with a FUP (as I purposely set out to make sure I got an unlimited service, having just moved from a company that had gone in one leap from being completely unlimited to a 2Gb limit), then I thought they had capped it at somewhere around the 7-9Gb mark (although saying they capped it, they didn't completely stop the service when you got there, just slowed things down until your next billing date). Now it appears to be 3Gb, however, saying that - that is only during peak times, ie, between 4pm and midnight. Fine by me - there is a 50Gb cap on the time between midnight and 4pm so I'll do any big downloading then.

It's all going to have to change again soon anyway. You've got the CPW/TT deal for "free" broadband arriving, and this new rollout of the "up to 8Mb" which means that there is going to be more and more streaming content and legal movie downloads, etc, out there - they're going to HAVE to increase the caps or change the way it works when that happens - I would imagine a couple of movie downloads would completely wipe out your limit for the month otherwise (and it's amazing how much of your allocation is used when your watching streamed stuff - I watched a bit of the Live8 thing when that was on - wow did that take a bite out it!).

For now, I'm happy chugging along and watching what happens - I'm only paying £14.99 per month, not locked in, and ready to jump ship if plusnet go stupid on me!

There is nothing about new T&Cs or acceptable use on their website. However, this item does appear in their news which they sent out recently. "Broadband Plus up to 2Mb, priced £14.99, will get 3GB of unrestricted usage at peak times (4pm – midnight) and a possible 50GB during off-peak hours."

I believe this means that you will get 3GB of downloads which are not subject to the FUP. After the 3GB has been reached, FUP will apply as before. Also, the off peak period is to go largely unmetered so you won't get the FUP kicking in until you hit 50GB. So the cap does not apply to your internet usage limits, but to "unrestricted by the FUP" usage. The great news is PAYG customers get free upgrades to 24M (if thier line can take it) and free unrestricted downloads between midnight and 8am :):):)

You think you lot have problems. I was a very happy customer with Metronet until those idiots at Plusnet got hold of it, now? It's a total unmitigated mess!

Stay well away from those @rseoles at Plusnet!

    Thanks for the replies!

I've sent my cancellation request, hopefully it'll be just as smooth (and no payout) as the rsharma person seems to say it is >_>

Sigh, now there's the problem of finding another internet service provider..
    Bloody Plusnet!!
