Can you "downgrade" TMobile priceplan to cheaper one whilst in contract?
Options
Hi there
last weekend I foolishly purchased the new iPhone and switched to O2 from Carphone Warehouse.without realising I was still in contract with TMobile until January 2010.
Obviously when I called TMobile to get my PAC code I was told it would cost £160 to do this as I was still in contract. Fortunately Carphone Warehouse give you 14 day cooling off period so I am looking at ways I can get round having to pay this early contract cancellation charge before deciding whether to return the iPhone and cancel the O2 contract.
To get round this £160 TMobile charge a friend suggested I could keep my TMobile contract running at same time as O2 and downgrade my priceplan to a cheaper monthly one - obviously wouldnt be making any calls or sending texts etc so would be cheap option. Currently I am on TMobile Flext 35 which is £30 a month. The cheapest TMobile priceplan looks to be a "combi" plan which is £15 a month. Obvioulsy though if I phone TMobile to organise this they are not going to just let me do it as I am losing them money.
So before I do phone TMobile does anyone know if it's possible to do this, ask them to "downgrade" you? I'm sure they will have a note I asked for my PAC code too so they probably realise I am looking to leave.
Also I want to keep my existing mobile number on the O2 service - if I downgraded my TMobile price plan would they let me move my phone number to O2 and give me a temporary number for the duration of my TMobile contract?
I am asking if anyone has advice rather than calling TMobile directly as I am sure TMobile will not want to help me with these questions as it's not it in their best interests.
Be grateful for any feedback.
The other alternative is I just take the iPhone back to Carphone Warehouse and cancel the O2 contract and wait until January 2010 to get the iphone.
thanks

You can't just drop to the cheapest plan, they'll only let you go down by one step a month, ie from what you're on now to the next lowest and so on.
Also, I'm not sure what T's current policy is on down grades, some networks only let you drop in the last month of the contract but I'm sure someone will be along to cover that one. . .0
