Hi All
Yorkshire bank rang me today and said £1800.00 had been taken out of my savings account to a Andrew Fisher (I have no idea who he is). They said the money would be replaced in 2/3 weeks and my online banking would be frozen for the same amout of time. I probably sound stupid but how could this happen? I am sensible and don't open any odd emails and have top Norton security. Y.Bank want a print out of a virus scan, I feel as though I have done something wrong even though I have not!!!I only use my home PC for banking ect and its not on a wireless network.
Also can these fraudsters get any other details such as mail order catalogues??
Finally are these tricksters ever caught and will I find out who did this to me??
Any help would be really appreciated I am worried sick and cant sleep.
Sara

Are your sure it was Yorkshire Bank who rang you !!!!
I would ring them back to check.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Firstly, are you sure that whoever rang you was definitely YB, and not just trying to get your account information. Did you verify this clam with the bank by calling them back? I've never known a bank to ask for a virus scan print out before.
If it's genuine, then the first thing I would do is log in to your account (if you still can) and change the password.
Norton is not 'top' security, it is one of the worst products on the market, however no security is 100% secure and you can't assume that norton is responsible.
I would anyway do a full manual scan with Norton and see what it shows up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Did the caller give you details of your account, or did they ask you to verify who you were, ask you for passwords etc?
Never give out personal details over the phone, and never your full password EVER, no bank will ever ask for this, they might ask for 2 random letters of a phrase or password, but never the full password.
Firstly call them back on their own telephone number, to ensure the call wasn't a fraud to get you to divulge information.
If it wasn't genuine tell YB about the call in detail.
If it was a genuine call, don't worry, you are going to get the money back, so just review what you've been doing with passwords and details, was it definitely on-line fraud, logging into your account and moving money?
Do you keep all your details secure, do you post personal info on social networking sites, like address/telephone?
In the meantime, log into your accounts and change all the passwords immediately, and scan your computer with anti-virus and anti-spyware, full info on the FAQs on this forum.0 -

Did they ask you to confirm your account details and any passwords? If so this could be a scam phishing call and you should call your bank immediately!0 -

EXACTLY!
Phishing attacks aren't always limited the internet. Something a lot of people don't seem to realise.
Forget scanning with your installed Virus scanner, as they can be corrupted use this site instead:
http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/virusscanner
You'll get the option to save a scan report at the end.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

How did YB know that the transaction wasn't legitimate? If they were to ring you out of the blue I'd have thought they'd first ask whether you did action this particular transaction. Equally, from experience, they would not promise you the return of cash until their own internal investigation had been completed. It's difficult to tell but the phone call does sound as if it is a potential scam in itself. DO try to recall whether you gave out any information on the phone?
Anyway, do as others have suggested, contact YB ASAP and change your password.0 -

Any idea what happens to the 62MB of files kaspersky is currently downloading to my PC? Are they deleted after the scan is complete?0 -

Nope they stay on your machine in a temporary folder, then next time you scan you won't have to download it all again.
It's 62MB, it's not going to cause ANY problem whatsoever, trust me“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
