Keeping your tyres at the correct pressures improves economy and co2 emissions. People know this and want to do their bit for the planet. Companies know this and know they can make a profit out of them and why not? The Government tax us on this priciple and we accept it!

It will only stop when we make it stop so go elsewhere or buy a foot pump!

The unfortunate thing is lots of customers mistreat the equipment, not putting it back in properly etc, and it leads to it getting broken. The 50p charge won't be to make a profit, it will be because they are fed up repairing it and are trying to get some of the money back that they have spent fixing it. I will say thought that 50p is more expensive than I thought they would make it.

Tescos have to pay to install the machine, pay to repair it, insure it, pay electricity, pay when the muppets hold the hose against hot exhausts, pay when muppets run over the pump unit and you want it for free.

Should Tescos add the cost of the free air to the petrol? Why should those of us that don't want to use the air have to pay for your useage? Oh I forgot, it's because it's all about ME ME ME!

You are using a machine they've provided, so why not charge? The machine, the electricity to run it and the personel and parts to maintain it are very far from being free!

I use a shell garage which is free, but would be happy to pay for it, after all it is quite an expensive piece of equipment.

Charging 50p for a drizzle of tap water for your windscreen wash bottle, though?

My dislike of air machines at petrol stations stems from the fact that they are often Out of Order, inaccurate when working due to misuse and damage, and the fact that the people that use them are the sort that check their tyres once a leap year.

I check my tyres once a week without fail and more often before long journeys. Over my 20+ years of motoring I've picked up deflating tyres many times due to nail/screw damage. Seems too many people don't value their lives to bother.

Generally it is free at supermarket petrol stations when you buy petrol.

    It's not free for non-customers.

On a related topic I've noticed that Tesco's fuel has become less competetive than in the past. I've got three local filling stations, a Shell, Tesco and Asda and in the past the prices at each used to be pretty much the same. These days Asda seem to be 3 or 4p a litre cheaper than Tesco and even the Shell garage is usually cheaper than Tesco by a penny a litre.

I wonder if this related to the 5p a litre discount if you spend over £50 in store:think:.
