Hi All,
Sent a letter to Three on the 6th July giving 30 days written notice to cancel the contract. The 6 month contract was due to end on the 5th August, I also included a copy of the original receipt which had proof that it was a 6 month contract, as I expected that they would say it was an 18 month contract as they had done on another contract I had taken with them at the same time.
The letter was sent via recorded delivery and was delivered on the 7th July.
Received a call from Three customer services on the 9th July, asking why I wanted to end the contract. They tried to get me to stay, told me I would have to pay early termination charges and then when I told them I was giving 30 days notice from the 6th July and this would take me to the end of my contract so there should be no early termination charges. They accepted this and I ended the call by saying follow the instructions in my letter giving 30 days notice from the 6th July. The call lasted over 40 minutes.
The phone stopped working later in the day and said no SIM was inserted.
Called Three on the 13th to ask why my phone was not working and was told that I requested it to be ceased on the 9th. I disputed this and told them I wanted compensation because I couldn't use my phone. The lady said she woudl send the info to her manager and they would listen to the recording and woudl call me back after a day or 2. The call lasted over 20 minutes.
Got a call from three on the 14th July, stating that I had cancelled my contract early and I would be charged an early termination fee. I explained the above again and was told I would have to speak to cancellations department to see if they would waive the early termination fee. They transferred me to cancellations and I was on hold for 42 minutes before I gave up and hung up. The call lasted 46 minutes in total.
I have everything documented and I am going to write another letter asking for compensation for my phone being cancelled early. I was wondering if it was also possible for me to request compensation for the time on the phone and also a charge for the letters that I have had to send.
The recorded delivery costs £1.20, but I was thinking of stating that I am charging £12 for the letter.
I was also thinking of charging £45 per hour for the phone calls so that last phone call that lasted 46 minutes would cost them £33 or thereabouts.
What do you people think about this, is it just a waste of time trying or am within my rights.
I was also thinking of stating in the letter that I do not want any more phone calls from them and want all communications to be via letter.
Thanks in advance

And what planet do you live on? £45 for a call? It seems to me that there was just some crossed wires.
you may get refunded a part payment of the unused month, other than that it would be a he said, she said situatuation.
a recorded delivery letter is just proof that they recieved something you sent, it doesnt prove what you sent.
its best to keep comunications to email, then theres a hard copy of what you requested should you need it.
id just go for a part refund for the unused month and put it down to a learning experience, it wont happen to you a second time!0 -
I would have used email if I could have found an email address for them, and also wasn't sure if they would have accepted an email as giving 30 days notice.
The content of the letter is not in dispute as they have read it a couple of times when I have spoken to them, they just seem to do exactly what they like and ignore what I have written in the letter.0
