Have you tried, Right Click the IE icon on your desktop, select Properties, then Programs Tab and untick the box marked "Internet Explorer should check to see if its the default program", then press Apply and Ok.
As regards the Importing of cookies etc. this may help here
Also, if non of the above work in setting your default browser, then there is this which will make the changes somewhat easier.
As regards specific help on Firefox, then here is the place to ask for that help, or search the knowledgebase for the answers.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0
