Spam to MSE unique e-mail address

Since I have used MSE I have always used as my e-mail address:

mse@mydomain.com

as an anti spam and spam tracing and blocking tactic.

I have recently started receiving spam addressed to this unique mse address - anyone else had the same ?

My email junk has increased 1000% this week. It's all getting through the usual filters. No problem, sailed through oddly.

1000%? Yeah, 1 last week and 10 this week.

It's never easy to pinpoint the whys and hows this happens but if there's several people who're getting spam to their MSE only email then the problem is MSE. Saying the data is secure is meaningless really as we'd need to know just how secure. Not that I'm accusing MSE of poor security. Maybe the people who are getting this MSE-only spam can pass the details to MSE and they can check on the VB boards for problems elsewhere.

I don't know why I got the spam but the best thing we can do is mark it and report it as spam so ISPs and spam watchers can learn from it.

Just because spam is reaching your "unique" e-mail address doesn't mean someone has given your address to the spammers.

They get through because (to put it simply) the spammers just use random address generating software and have got lucky reaching you.

Make your address truly unique by randomising it. (eg 0od7kl5e@domain.com)

if they are using random address generating software what difference does it make if your email is random?

A totally random address is less likely to be reproduced (compare the one that got "found" - just three letters - "mse" - with a gobbledegook of numbers and letters)

Any self respecting spammer will be sending out to addresses just made up of 3 initials out of a 26 letter alphabet!
