Go for your complimentary 2nd chance. And while there tell them sternly that this is your special day and at the prices they're charging it better be perfect!

I have to admit, this idea had crossed my mind lol

You also need to consider that if they can't cook well for just 5 of you, how will they manage with mass catering wedding style.

this is exactly what I thought

on the day they will have about 70 people to feed
and i will expect them to do it well...no excuses

they are quite a popular wedding venue...and they have a very good reputation for food....so I cant imagine last night was a typical night there food/service wise, but it leaves me very unsure.......at this rate I will be wanting to go in and check the standard of food every week leading up to the wedding to check it is still good lol

  • My mum used to be a caterer within a venue. We had different chefs for different things.
One that could do your a'la cart menu for small parties all eating differnt meals and one that could feed 500 guests at a wedding really well with a set menu.
They sucked at doing each others jobs.

if all you're getting is positive reviews from large parties mebbe they're just better at that?

secret shopper idea is deffo a good way forward :)

Are they reviewed on hitched or anything??

I would go back and secretly try another meal. Are you tied to this venue already? Because if it was me I would be very troubled that they weren't making any effort to impress you, knowing you were going to have your wedding there.

On the up side.......it's good that you had this trial, so you can either rectify things or go elsewhere. Can you imagine having that disappointing meal served to you and all your guests on the actual day!!

    Have looked on hitched...but nothing

we arent 'tied' to them at the moment, we have a provisional booking for the date we want, but thats all at the moment, the idea was after the meal we would book it properly lol

well after a bit of back and forth with the venue today, we are going to go back later in the week for a complimentary meal to see if its up to the standard we were expecting.
hopefully it will be better and I can relax again...if not we will be moving on and not having it there

decided to give them another chance, as i went there on saturday with my bridesmaids for afternoon tea and it was really lovely....just what we expected
but unless we are going to change our wedding menu to being cream teas thats not enough for us to go on lol

I personally wouldn't touch them if you've had a bad experience. I think it was a great idea to test them out. It would have been awful to spend lots of money on your special day and be disappointed. If they are a hotel, you could also check out the reviews on laterooms.com?

In all honesty, they shouldn't be making an extra special effort to impress you - they should be producing their best efforts regardless of who they are serving.

louise - you are right, they should be producing there best all the time, not just when trying to impress

ooohhh i forgot something.......they really topped off the evening well

as we walked out we were chased by the head waiter type person shouting 'have you settled up?'
cheeky fricking git, no course we havent we are just all slowly walking out the door hoping not to pay lol

i understand he needs to check people have paid...but there are better ways to do it.......i had a good winge about that one lol

Honestly, I know you really like the venue, but please, think about this one.

Ramsey s kitchen nightmares would tell you that if there are only 3 tables in of an evening- this is not a great resturaunt. Why is it not busy?

Going back a second time will be them doing thier very best, after all - how much is your wedding going to be for them in terms of income?

Youve done your mysery shop, youve done it already youve seen the crap food and the waiter chasing shouting afer you.
I have been to too many weddings where the food was as you describe and ive seen the heartbreak on the couples face as they couldnt eat thier own food and people are leaving them ( at ££££££ costs)

Its not worth spoiling the day over IMO.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
