argh....food dissapointment!

Well after what seems like a lot of looking we found a venue that we all love the look of...we went and looked round and really liked it

So we booked for dinner, and went last night

There were 5 of us, and we ordered a nice selection of things to really try them out...and it was horribly dissapointing, espeacially considering how much it cost (starters about £7, mains ranging from £19 to 22, pudding £7)

Now Im in a bit of a lull....have contacted the venue and told them how dissapointed I am and am now waiting to hear back from them....but to be honest I think i have lost confidence in them now :(

rubbish!

have emailed the other option for the venue to ask if they can do exclusive use so we can re consider there again...but right now I am feeling really quite blue

anyway just wanted to share it with you all :(

What was wrong with the food?

    were they super busy?
Mebbe the normal chef had the night off?

mebbe they'll buck up their ideas when they get your complaint.
    You could try them again?

I'm worried about this - did they know you were coming as a trial for the wedding? Or were you secret shopping?

I am going to see my venue in August, they know we're looking round but not that we're eating and I can't decide whether to let them know in case they make more of an effort than usual in an attempt to get our custom.

many things were wrong to be honest, including no taste in some dishes, most meals were dry/overcooked except mine which wasnt cooked

i wouldnt say they were super busy.....we were only ones there when we arrived, then a few more tables as the night went on...but nothing I would say would have been hard work (and have worked in that environment so I would have been sympathetic on a busy night)

they have come back to me now and said how sorry they are...and that normally they get very positive feedback about the food...... I have now been offered a complimentary meal for me and my oh to see if they can do better on attempt number 2
Im in two minds as to whether to go or not lol, they will obviously know why we are there and may well end up making extra effort to be good that they wont do on a normal day ...... who knows

unfortunately for them, they knew why we were there, i booked the meal witht he wedding planner, and there were a few comments from staff through the night about the wedding...so they definetly knew why we were there...and you would have thought they would have made an extra effort to impress....but obvioulsy not!

by the way...the other place we looked at, didnt know why we were there and food was great......the location just isnt the same

    urgh......fed up lol

the think is, i now have a niggle in the back of my mind that on the day they will perform badly again.......

If you have a niggle now you are going to be correct.

If you go back a 2nd time they will make an extra effort.

When I was a waitress many years ago, the Head Waiter always pointed out people of importance to the hotel, and junior staff were not allowed near those tables, and only the head chef could cook their food ,heads waiter etc to serve it.

Can you get to speak to any brides who have used the venue and ask themhow overall they rated the services / food etc.

    Good luck

i dont know what to do;.......i like the place so much i want to give them a second chance...but i want an honest second chance lol not a meal where they do more than they would on the wedding day if you see what I mean.

I want a real indication of the food

I have spoken to a few people who have eaten there and they all said how lovely it was

Asked about previous weddings etc, and was given a whole load of comments from brides etc about the venue.....there are a lot of them, and they are all very positive.....but then would you show a potential customer negative comments, i dont think so lol
not sure how to go about getting a real idea of peoples experiences

Could you book again as a secret shopper - just you and OH and don't order as much so it doesn't cost too much - and see how it is then?

I could probably book it in secret (and only order mains so we arent too out of pocket lol)
but its a fairly small hotel, with a smallish group of staff.....and to be honest I think the moment we walk in they will know why we are there lol (my oh is fairly noticeable with his crazy hair and beard :D )

could possibly send parents to do it undercover tho.....that might work

Go for your complimentary 2nd chance. And while there tell them sternly that this is your special day and at the prices they're charging it better be perfect!

You also need to consider that if they can't cook well for just 5 of you, how will they manage with mass catering wedding style.
