Do you confirm every order by email?

Do you email everyone who buys something from you?

Had a stroppy email today as I hadn't emailed the buyer to confirm the purchase or dispatch time.

How do you work it?

I try and mail the buyer to thank them for their payment and to let them know when it will be posted but sometimes to be honest I forget or I just don't have time to do it - I rarely get emails when I buy something so I think it's a case of some do some don't tbh

I do if someone is willing to hand over there money to me the least I can do is email them and confirm reciept and dispatch time. I just think thats good business sense. Make buying a pleasant and informed experience and you get return custom

If a seller doesnt tell me I wouldnt email and moan I just mark them down on the DSRs

I always send an e-mail thanking them for paying & advising when I will send the item. I also advise them to contact me if any problems & give my name as it seems a bit more personal that way.
I still have only managed to get 4.9 on communication though!
  • I do send an email saying "thanks for your payment I will be posting tomorrow/ Monday / whenever", but I don't sell very many items so it's not a very arduous task.

I'm really embarrassingly rubbish at replying to sellers when they send them to me though!

Does the paypal postage not send an email if you use that? I have stopped emailing due to this....

  • Not everyone uses Paypal postage though.

I tend to fire off a quick email following payment saying something along the lines of 'Thanks for buying, I'll post tomorrow/ the next day/ whenever.'

Yes: I just email buyers telling when item posted (most are SD) and when to expect delivery. Just saves hassle such as you have just had. Also i9f item goes walkabout it can be chased up at the sorting office before it arrives back on your own doorstep.

Apparently it does but I'm not sure how many people use paypal postage. Firstly you can only have 1st class, so no chance of 2nd class and secondly you still have to queue up at the Post office for COPs anyway . Having said that I used it twice today as I sold two items about an hour ago and both are small enough to fit in a post box and are cheap enough I couldn't be bothered to go to the PO again.

I also send a quick message via ebay to say thank you and to let them know it's on it's way. I can appreciate it might be hard for some people if they are selling hundreds of things though. I also state in my listing I will let them know.

Actually in all the things I have bought I don't think anyone has sent me a message saying my item is on it's way, yet I still send my buyers one. Hmm.

I use Seller manager Pro to automatically email, and copy to eBay inbox, to confirm payment received and item despatched in the same message. I post daily, so customers are never waiting long to receive confirmation.
The email is sent as soon as I mark the item as despatched in the eBay summary page.

On the flip side - nothing worse than getting a dozen emails for a single low value purchase. It just seems desperate.
