No. All that horrid software does is rename your broswer from

    BBC - Micrsoft Interet Explorer

    to

BBC - Microsoft Internet Explorer powered by BT or Pipex or Nildram.

All you need to install is the software for your hardware. ie drivers for a USB ADSL modem.

AOL software is the best! Now that CAN kill a machine quickly!
It also edits the windows logo in the top-right corner of the Internet Explorer window to a BT logo, which moves around, like the BT advert, when the connection is active. I much prefer the normal, clean layout without the extra junk.

chunter, it's strange that a failed install of some BT software would stop you from pinging the router. Glad to hear its all working now though.

Any company in it's right mind would never advice end users to mess about with the computers registry over the phone. PC's are very complicated devices that perform thousaunds of calculations a second!!

Why is it BT's problem or any other company if your OS may need rebuilding???

Why shouldnt they? Deleting a entry from the registry is simple. If you are told step-by-step how to fix a problem then you are going to give it a try.

Another user has already said by fixing his/her reg it fixed a problem. Imagine having to re-install a OS when 1 entry needed deleting from reg. Saving you a time of erm...........2+ hours?
