Keeping my UK number active whilst abroad for ~8 months?

Hi guys,
I got lucky and ended up with a very memorable mobile phone number.
However, I'm going abroad for ~8 months and will be getting a completely new phone and number there.
I would like to keep my UK number active so that I can use it when I come back.
What would be the best way/phone plan to do this?
(also, my parents will still be in the UK if anything needs doing like sending texts to keep it active)

Port it to a cheap payg service eg Asda, Tesco Lite,and make a minimum top up and someone will have to make/send one call or text every 180 days to be on the safe side.0
